Tour Overview

This unique Safari and Tour gives you a taste of the Tanzanian culture, its wildlife and its famous Mount Kilimanjaro, all in the one action-packed adventure. On arrival, we pick you up at the airport and take you to our favourite Moshi town where you can choose from mid-range to luxury accommodation. Our favourite Parkview Inn offers you comfortable and affordable accommodation, a swimming pool and the benefit of being only 5 minutes walk from town centre with its bustling markets and many street traders. We then take you on a unique safari to the Mkomazi National Park housing Tanzania's new Rhino Sanctuary. You will see the magnificent beast at close quarters, something you may never see on an ordinary safari. We follow this with a 'taste of the mountain' Kilimanjaro climb. Here you will climb 2/3rd the distance to the summit. You will stay in the routes cosy, well-known hostel huts and exchange stories with other climbers. Finally, we take you on a 1-day safari to Arusha National Park where you will get close up and personal with giraffes roaming freely and you may see buffalo, wort hogs, and possibly some elephants.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Moshi

Location: Moshi

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

We pick you up from the airport in our safari vehicle or a chartered bus and register you at the Parkview Inn in Moshi. You will have time to relax and unwind as well as to stroll through Moshi town with its markets, street traders and its excellent coffee shops (the coffee is more than likely grown locally!)
In the evening relax with a swim and some social time. We will also brief you about your upcoming climb and the ins and outs of your travel itinerary.

Day 2 : Mkomazi National Park

Location: Mkomazi National Park

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Mkomazi National Park is the home for the recently established Rhino Sanctuary in association with the Leonardo diCaprio Foundation for sustaining wildlife.
Nestled in the shadow of the Usambara Mountain range, Mkomazi offers many of Africa's wild game species and allows close contact with one of its most endangered — the rhino.
This is an easy journey (approx. 235km/146mi.) from Moshi town through some spectacular countryside.
We leave the park for the evening and drive to our next destination — Kilimanjaro Resort Hotel.

Day 3 : Kilimanjaro National Park

Location: Mandara Huts

Accommodation: Hostel, Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The drive from Kilimanjaro Resort Hotel will take you through the foothills of mighty Kilimanjaro a journey of only about 8km(5mi.).
Your trek will take you through the rainforest up to the tree line where Mandara Huts are located. You may see plenty of wildlife including many exotic bird species and colobus monkeys.
Mandara huts (altitude 2712m/8900ft) are simple triangular A-frames sleeping up to 3 people. You will have your own sleeping bag and towel, but they are very comfortable after your hike through the forest. There is a communal dining hall where you can meet and greet other climbers and enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by our cooks.
After breakfast, you will begin your ascent to Horombo Hut.

Day 4 : Horombo Huts

Location: Kilimanjaro National Park

Accommodation: Hostel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We start the day by continuing through the forest to the tree line where the trail opens up into heathland with Alpine vegetation. We may get our first views of the Kili summit and his sister Mawenzi peak, the two most visible volcanic peaks that make up Kilimanjaro. Your trek will be a steady climb through some magnificent foothill landscapes. You will have your eye on the summit as you climb. Up until the treeline you may continue to see wildlife including the Colobus monkeys but as the trail opens up the wildlife is not so plentiful.
At Horombo hut you might again have a chance to meet other climbers and share stories in the evening. Your hut will be a comfortable break after your climb. At elevation 3720m you may experience some small difficulty with breathing but this is still below the critical 4200m where one begins to experience altitude sickness.
Elevation: 2712m/8,900ft to 3720m/12,205ft
Distance: 12 km/7 miles
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Habitat: Arctic Heathland.

Day 5 : Return To Moshi

Location: Moshi

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After finishing your heart-warming breakfast at altitude 3700m/12,200ft you will start your descent, trekking back along the Coca-cola route to receive your climb certificate and sign out at Marangu Gate. The welcome journey back to your hotel for a well-earned shower and rest will not seem so long as the journey up to Marangu.
An evening of rest and relaxation with a debriefing after your climb will help to ease you back into your normal breathing patterns. At 3700 metres you are very near the limit at 4200 metres where breathing becomes difficult!
Have an early night ahead of your final safari day.

Day 6 : I Day Safari

Location: Arusha National Park

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, we head out towards Arusha where we turn north to access the small national park. Here you will see many of Tanzania's wildlife animals, especially the national emblem, the giraffe. You will pass by colonies of Cape buffalo, zebra, warthog, the black-and-white colobus monkey, the blue monkey, flamingo, elephant, bushbuck and many other African animals. Leopard populations are present, but rarely seen.
On the lakes you may also see some local pink flamingos, as well as many other species of wildfowl.
Enjoy your last day amongst Africa's finest wildlife in a relatively small park.
If timing allows, we will drop you off at the airport for your return flight. We can also arrange further accommodation if necessary.
