Tour Overview

Prepare for an assault on the senses as we plunge into the vibrant, chaotic, other-world that is India. In Delhi, the teeming capital city, we see contrasts of old and new as we take a rickshaw ride (or tuk-tuk if you prefer) through the 500 year-old city, with visits to Humayun’s Tomb and the museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, followed by a stimulating day that features the Garden of Five Senses. Continuing by train (an experience in itself) to Agra we visit the Red Fort and, of course, the Taj Mahal - enjoying stunning views at both sunset and sunrise. We discover the amazing Abhanri stepwell before continuing to Jaipur. Here we tour the impressive Amber Fort and visit the elegant gardens of the Rambagh Palace, with both Oriental and Mughal gardens, which contrast with the Persian style of gardens we find at Sisodia Palace. Moving on to Jodhpur we enjoy walks through the bustling bazaars and markets, a uniquely colourful and fragrant experience, and explore the charming Mandore Gardens with a variety of flora and some chattering monkeys. We conclude in Udaipur, where we see an incredible Hindu temple, locations from a Bond film and the treasures of the Jagmandir Island Palace.

Highlights

  • Private session with botanist in The Garden of Five Senses, Delhi

  • Sunset views and sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal

This garden is located near the first city of Delhi, the Qila Rai Pithora, and while following the approach road to the garden we can see the massive walls of this fort. The Garden of Five senses depicts the architecture of the first city including the stones used in the construction of boundary walls and a dome-shaped office complex. Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Samode Bagh, Samode
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Early this morning we return to the Taj Mahal in time for sunrise and incredible views. This UNESCO World Heritage site is regarded as the best example of Mughal architecture and a symbol of India's rich history. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as an expression of his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, in mid-17th century, the Taj Mahal is truly one of the wonders of the world. Though the Taj is amazingly perfect from almost any angle, it is the close-up marble inlay work, which is astounding. Prepare to be mesmerized by this outstanding piece of architecture.
Later we visit Abhaneri Stepwell, merited for its amazing stepwell or 'baoris' and Hindu Temple. According to legend, the village is so called because the Goddess Harshat Mata, who is portrayed in a joyous mood and is believed to spread brightness or "abha" all around. The ruins of the temple also speak of the 10th century architectural and sculptural styles. There is a huge tank named "Chand Baori", opposite to the temple fortified on all four sides with bastions for defence.  Lunch will be organised at Umaid Palace, a family run resort spread across 20 acres of green cover with beautiful gardens. Day 8 : Excursion To Amber Fort
Location: Jaipur, Amber fort, Hawa Mahal, Rambagh Palace - Jaipur, The City Palace
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Alsisar Haveli, Jaipur
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we enjoy a guided excursion to Amber Fort. Situated atop a hill overlooking the city, this impressive structure was the old capital before the city of Jaipur was built. You will go via the hill to the Palace, which is laid out on different levels of the hillside and surrounded by a fortress. The exterior of the fort is very imposing and rugged, whereas the inside, by contrast, is comforting and warm, influenced by both Hindu and Muslim ornamentation. On the walls are paintings depicting various hunting scenes, intricate carvings, mosaics, and minute mirror work that lend the halls a majestic and imperial air.
We make a photo stop at `Palace of Winds’, otherwise known as Hawa Mahal. The stone-carved screens, small casements and arched roofs are some of the features of this popular attraction.
Later visit the Gardens of Rambagh Palace - renowned for their elegance and exotic foliage that attract a variety of exotic birds. Even today, peacocks preen on the lawns, and flocks of migratory birds continue to visit the gardens. The front lawns of Rambagh Palace are abloom with Ashok, Bougainvillea and Lantana Trees. The Oriental Garden is inspired by Chinese motifs and designs. The Mughal Garden has an expansive range of flowers which can be enjoyed before our included lunch.
In Jaipur city, we visit Maharaja's City Palace, the Royal residence of which a part is converted into a museum. A small portion is still used by the Royal family of Jaipur. Built in the style of a fortified campus, the palace covers almost one seventh of the city area. One of the major attractions in the museum is the portion known as Armoury Museum housing an impressive array of weaponry-pistols, blunderbusses, flintlocks, swords, rifles and daggers.

Day 9 : Visit The Sisodia Gardens And Palace
Location: Jaipur, Sisodia Rani ka Bagh, Jodhpur
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Radisson Hotel, Jodhpur
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

This morning we visit the Sisodia Gardens and Palace. Sisodia Rani ka Bagh was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1728 as a gift of love for his beloved queen. The Queen’s palace was painstakingly built in a location where it overlooks the entire bagh. This beautiful heritage garden is built in the Charbagh style, which is the Persian style wherein gardens are divided into four parts by walking paths, or sometimes water features, which intersect in the centre. This principle of a quadrilateral design is inspired by references in the Qur’an which suggest that the gardens of Paradise have such a design. The garden is famous for its lush green trees and floral beds, for its multi-layered palace, shrines, murals, pavilions, frescoes, paintings, fountains and roaming peacocks. The spires and pavilions in the garden are decorated with frescoes of Hindu motifs and paintings, especially from the life of Lord Krishna and his beloved, Radha. The centre of the Bagh hosts shrines dedicated to the Hindu Gods Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman, with a natural spring located next to the central shrine.
Later we drive to Jodhpur and our hotel.

Day 10 : Explore Jodhpur
Location: Jodhpur, Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Sardar Market, Cirdikot, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, Mandore Garden
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Radisson Hotel, Jodhpur
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

This morning we explore Jodhpur visiting Mehrangarh Fort (citadel of the Sun) that evokes the very spirit of the Rathores, the ruling local Rajput clan and visit its various palaces with their delicate friezes and respective museums, displaying treasures of the royal family. North of Mehrangarh Fort, and connected to it by road, Jaswant Thada is a pillared marble memorial to the popular ruler Jaswant Singh II (1878-95), who purged Jodhpur of dacoits (bandits), initiated irrigation systems and boosted the economy. The cenotaphs of members of the royal family who have died since Jaswant are close by his memorial; those who preceded him are remembered by chattris at Mandore.
We take a guided walk around the bazaars located around the clock tower and explore the wholesale grain market, bamboo market, the array of spice sellers, fruits and vegetables. One of the oldest markets in the city, Sardar Market is said to have over 6,000 tiny shops hawking all manner of goods.
Today also includes a private meeting with the curator of the Umaid Bhawan Palace, one of the world's largest private residences, who will introduce us to the palace’s beautiful gardens and lawns.
Later visit the stunning Mandore Gardens, located in the ancient city of Mandore. The gardens boast charming features including rock terraces, sculptures, cenotaphs, monuments, temples and a museum. The garden is home to a variety of flora and a few monkeys.

Day 11 : We Head For Udaipur
Location: Udaipur, Ranakpur Jain Temple, Udaipur
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Trident Hotel, Udaipur
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast we head for Udaipur and en-route visit the Ranakpur Jain Temple, a massive white edifice carved with bold geometry of white marble. Among the trees here we have time to take in the statues, pillars and temple. There are 144 pillars, each uniquely carved and difficult to count, similar to the statues, each facing its neighbours, depicting animals and gods. We arrive at our hotel. Perhaps enjoy a walk in the sprawling hotel gardens at 'Bada Mahal' - a 150-year-old wildlife conservatory within the hotel premises.

In the afternoon we wander through the old market at Udaipur and areas where the Bond film ‘Octopussy’ was filmed. Then we take a boat-ride on the placid waters of Lake Pichola, visiting the bathing Ghats where we will have the opportunity to witness evening ritual ceremonies and the City Palace, a complex built over a period of 400 years with its fusion of architecture and the outstanding treasures of the crystal Gallery. Jagmandir Island Palace is a stunning marble structure that seems to float effortlessly atop Lake Pichola and includes a beautiful flower garden adorned with roses, palm trees, jasmine and bougainvillea.
This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner with views overlooking the City Palace.

  • Are the local guides on the tour English speaking?

    Yes

  • Are airport transfers included in this tour?

    No

  • Are flights included in this tour?

    No

  • Will I receive more details of the holiday before I travel?

You will receive detailed joining instructions around 10 days prior to you departure, but you are of course welcome to contact us at any time should you have any queries.

  • What facilities do your coaches have?

Generally, our coaches have reclining seats, air-conditioning and toilets, however this cannot always be guaranteed as sometimes we have to use smaller vehicles. Toilets are recommended for emergency use only and regular comfort stops will be made throughout your holiday while travelling around.

  • Do I have to go on the included excursions?

Absolutely not. You are more than welcome to spend the day at your hotel or exploring independently should you wish. All we ask is that you inform your Tour Manager, so they are not left waiting for you to join the group.

  • Is there time to relax?

Although our itineraries may seem jam-packed, boasting access to some of the most exclusive sites across the UK and beyond, a Brightwater Holiday is just that: a holiday. Each trip will counter in more than enough free-time for you to explore places at your own leisure. And with most nights and the majority of meals being included in our tour prices, you can relax in hand-picked accommodation.

  • Do I need to be an expert?

Absolutely not! Although some of our tours are specifically focused on one thing, all you need to enjoy a Brightwater holiday is interest and bags of enthusiasm! Even on our most specialist tours, we take travellers from all skill levels, from experts to beginners.

  • How fit or active do I need to be for one of your holidays?

  • Do you have self-drive holidays?

Yes, we do – tailored to your exact requirements!

  • What’s the luggage allowance on your coaches?

There’s no fixed limit, but we generally say one large suitcase to go in the luggage compartment and a smaller bag that you can take onto the coach with you. For flight-inclusive holidays, we include a luggage allowance of at least 20kg.

  • Where are your departure points?

UK garden holidays generally depart from London, with additional pick-ups depending on the route of the coach, while holidays to Scotland depart from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth, with Dundee, Inverness and Aberdeen sometimes included. All Eurostar holidays depart from London St. Pancras and flight-inclusive holidays depart from one or more of the main London airports, with regional flights .

  • What about the company that will be kept?

For single travellers, those with a companion or even those travelling in a larger group, you'll find that the signature of any Brightwater Holiday is the company. You won't ever be travelling with a group of strangers, instead, you'll find yourself surrounded by like-minded people with a strong shared interest who will soon become your firm friends.

  • What is a Brightwater Holiday?

Bursting with enthralling, educational and enlightening itineraries, a Brightwater Holiday, by its very nature, is packed with bucket-list-worthy destinations, behind the scenes passes and expert-led experiences. From creating bespoke quality garden and special interest tours for groups and individuals alike, we have made it our business to make our guests' travel dreams come true.

  • Why is there a single supplement?

Unfortunately, single room supplements are charges that are often imposed on us as a company when we book rooms for group holidays. However, most hotels do charge less for single occupancy, and we always pass this saving on to our solo travellers in the form of a modest single supplement.

  • How much are your optional excursions?

Prices start from as little as £20, but please contact our friendly team for questions about specific itineraries or excursions.

  • Can I pre-book my coach seats?

Yes, you can. In the case of front seats, guests with limited mobility are given priority. Please get in touch with our friendly team to discuss any requirements you may have.

  • How to get there? Easy!

With a Brightwater Holiday, the journey is just as important as the destination and we make getting you to your tour start point easy. From organising group flights and individual travel plans, to offering accessible local departure and pick-up points, we go out of our way to ensure that your journey is as convenient and hassle-free as it can be.

  • Do I need to have travel insurance?

Travel insurance is required for all overseas holidays and is also strongly recommended for UK holidays – primarily to protect yourself against cancellation charges should you be unable to travel.

Brightwater Holidays offers great value

28-Nov-2019

I would highly recommend Brightwater Holidays. It offers excellent service and value for money. This was my first tour as I normally arrange holidays myself, but this tour - which was to the gardens of Kent and Sussex - was a very pleasant change of pace.

My experience with Brightwater Holidays

The tour was well managed, the sites visited were all interesting and linked to the theme of the Picts and their place in history, the hotel was comfortable and the coach journeys were well paced. I have been with Brightwater before and will certainly travel with them again

Noted a comment on taking coaches on A814 by a local person who didn't know the facts: When the A82 was blocked and the POLICE divert you onto that road you do as instructed not what a you know are tight roads but they only way to your destination as intructed by officials. We know this route is not suitable for large vehicles but the driver does as instructed by someone in authority.

07-Oct-2023

Recent (September 2023) Scottish holiday not so good. Various 'issues' to do with scheduling and organisation. I'm happy to report however that - after an interval - a letter expressing disappointment brought a full response - including a generous refund. So - with fingers slightly crossed - we'll be booking with Brightwater again in due course.

The recent tour in Northumberland...

30-Sep-2023

The recent tour in Northumberland turned out to be a shambles. Our South London driver took us to Newcastle, but no guide to meet us. Next day still no guide and the bus driver attempted to salvage the tour the best he could despite having no knowledge of the attractions. Fortunately one of the passengers Googled the tides for Holy Island. No holiday guide ever showed up. Coach and hotel were fine. Do these people only offer self guided tours? Take Shearings next time.

20-Feb-2024

I had heard this company was a nightmare to deal with, but thought I'd give it a go. Signed up for a tour, then emailed them about how to pay off the balance. No response to 3 emails. I've never encountered a tour company that ignored questions on how to pay off a balance. Looked into other reviews and found many complaints about cancelled tours and refusals to refund deposits.

Two of your tour busses...

26-Jul-2021

Two of your tour busses used the A814 from Garelochhead to Arrochar on 24th July 2021. This route is not suitable for large vehicles and your drivers should not have taken the huge coaches that way. There are clear signs at both ends of the road indicating it is not suitable for HGV's. Our car had to go off into the soft verge to allow your coaches to pass. Please amend your routes to avoid this road in future.
