Itinerary

Day 1: Brazilian Heritage At Its Richest

Location: Salvador

Our tour starts in Salvador. Although many head to Bahia for its tropical coastline and tasty caipirinha drinks, the state’s most popular destination is undoubtedly its capital. Salvador is home to Afro-Brazilian heritage at its richest: deep-fried seafood, festive drum-pounding sounds, mystical religious ceremonies, dance and an artistic form of martial arts called capoeira.

Day 2: Cruising The Eye-Catching Coastline

Location: Salvador

Today we sail around Salvador’s coastline. Itaparica Island is located about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from Salvador. It has 40 kilometers (25 miles) of beaches and exuberant tropical vegetation. Itaparica is the largest maritime island in Brazil. Nearby Frades Island is located in the center of the bay. It is 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) in length and is shaped like a fifteen-pointed star.

Day 3: Charming & Colorful Portuguese Architecture, Music Blasting & Authentic Cuisine

Location: Salvador, Recife

Before relocating by flight to the city of Recife, we explore Salvador some more. This historic city is renowned for its crumbling yet nevertheless impressive Portuguese architecture. Salvador serves as Brazil’s second most visited urban destination after Rio de Janeiro. Today we are provided with a guided tour, exploring the sites and landmarks in depth. UNESCO declared the old town a World Heritage Site in 1985. Salvador is one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. There is much to see and enjoy: music blasting on the streets, authentic cuisine, charming squares, colorful buildings and more.

Day 4: Buggy-Riding On The Beach & Sailing To Natural Pools

Location: Recife

Today we make a daytrip from Recife to a beach called Porto de Galinhas. There we take a sailboat (a.k.a. jangada) to a nearby natural pool as well as go buggy-riding on the beach. Porto de Galinhas has been voted ‘Best Brazilian Beach’ for the eighth time in a row by the readers of Voyage & Tourism magazine.

Day 5: Colonial Olinda’S Ambiance & Postcard-Perfect Appearance

Location: Olinda, Recife

Today we explore Recife’s adjacent town, Olinda. Characterized by bright white churches, pastel-colored buildings, historic fountains and cobblestone streets and squares, the UNESCO World Heritage Site that is Olinda is spread across several small hills overlooking Recife. Olinda offers a sense of ambiance incomparable to anywhere else in Brazil. Incidentally, Olinda is one of Brazil’s three best locations to celebrate the world-renowned festival Carnival, along with Salvador and Rio de Janeiro.

Day 6: The Fantasy Destination You’Ve Awaited

Location: Fernando de Noronha

We relocate by flight from Recife to the main island within the Fernando de Noronha archipelago. The highlight for today is a point called Morro do Pico. There we are provided with a guided hike to a spectacular viewpoint. In 2001, Fernando de Noronha was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is arguably the most romantic destination in all of Brazil.

Day 7: Experiencing Tropical Paradise

Location: Fernando de Noronha

Today we explore the beaches, natural pools and viewpoints of the main island. Throughout the day, we experience the tropical paradise we have all dreamed about.

Day 8: A Water Excursion & An Almost Unheard-Of Snorkeling Adventure

Location: Fernando de Noronha

Today starts with a boat excursion away from the main island. Snorkeling is included on this morning’s tour. After lunch, we are taken to a beach called Conceicao. There we are pulled by boat while snorkeling at the same time. This provides a very unique experience, one many people have never even heard of.

Day 9: A National Park Like Nowhere Else On Earth

Location: Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses

Leaving Fernando de Noronha, we relocate by flight and then by land to reach Lençóis Maranhenses. This national park includes 70 kilometers (43 miles) of coastline and an interior composed of rolling sand dunes. During the rainy season (February through May), the valleys among the dunes fill with freshwater lagoons. Lençóis Maranhenses National Park receives as many as 60,000 visitors a year.

Day 10: A Flightseeing Tour Over Sand Dunes & A Morning-To-Sunset 4X4 Jeep Tour

Location: Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses

Today we are taken on an adventurous morning-to-sunset 4x4 Jeep tour, checking out sand dunes and lagoons. We also have time for swimming. The lagoons in the park are often interconnected with one another, as well as with the rivers that run through the area. In the late afternoon, we are taken on a flightseeing tour over sand dunes and lagoons. This just may be your most unforgettable adventure while in Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.

Day 11: Lagoons & Desert Viewpoints By Boat

Location: Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses, São Luís

Before relocating by land to the city of Sao Luis, we explore Lençóis Maranhenses National Park some more. We spend the day doing a boat tour. The highlights are the river itself and the desert viewpoints. Few places on Earth can be compared to the unique physical features of this ecofriendly destination.

Day 12: Welcome To The Jungle!

Location: Manaus

We relocate by flight from Sao Luis to the city of Manaus and then take a drive to our ecolodge. Lodging in a vast rainforest is in itself an experience, as are going on river cruises to see wildlife and meeting local tribes. We have saved the best for last, meaning spending our final days of this grand tour exploring the Amazon.
Note that all meals are included by the ecolodge during our stay.

Day 13: Swimming With Dolphins & Being Introduced To A Local Tribe

Location: Manaus

The Amazon is the world’s most renowned rainforest for good reason. The highlights for today are spotting wildlife, being introduced to an authentic Amazonian tribe and cruising alongside pink dolphins in their natural habitat.

Day 14: Our Tour Ends Today After Exploring The Amazon Some More

Location: Manaus

The Amazon is the final destination on our tour around North Brazil. Transportation will be arranged for you to reach the airport after we do a river cruise in the morning.

  • Accommodation

This tour includes lodging for 2 nights, specifically while in the Amazon (nights 12 and 13). However, upon request, we can book accommodation for you for all nights at establishments which meet your needs. For years, we automatically included 5-star hotels in our travel packages. In the interest of our customers, we ultimately decided to reduce the price of our tours and encourage specifically those with higher expectations to simply request room upgrades. Why? Some of our customers want simple and clean but ultimately cheap rooms. Some of our customers want 4-star hotels and are willing to pay more. Others want nothing short of 5-star extravagance. There isn’t a way to uphold ONE standard for hotels in our travel packages considering everyone has a different budget. What we CAN uphold are the standard and quality of our tours, all of which offer nothing short of a first-class experience. Again, upon request, we can book lodging for all nights on this tour. Let us know and we will provide you with pricing options. Below are the names of the hotels where we commonly have our customers stay. Note this is subject to availability. Nights 1-2: Salvador, Preferred Accommodation: Hotel Fasano Salvador or Zank by Toque Nights 3-5: Recife, Preferred Accommodation: Radisson Hotel Nights 6-8: Fernando de Noronha Island, Preferred Accommodation: Pousada Maria Bonita or Dolphin Hotel or Posada Paradise Fernando Nights 9-10: Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, Preferred Accommodation: Porto Preguiças Resort Night 11: Sao Luis, Preferred Accommodation: Blue Tree Nights 12-13: Novo Airão, Preferred Accommodation: Mirante do Gaviao

Reviews from Travellers on this Tour

Marcus Schneider

The company held up to all of those promises and gave a five-star tour of a beautiful country.

01-Dec-2020

The consensus I discovered in my research on group tours is that CharlieTheTraveler customers are overall very happy with their experience, according to their reviews online. This made choosing a tour with this company an easy decision. I chose North Brazil as the tour promised a variety of activities. The company held up to all of those promises and gave a five-star tour of a beautiful country. The descriptions of the activities and sites I was brought to do not do the experience justice, as nothing can explain the feeling of snorkeling off of Conceicao or flying over Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. This is a trip I am glad to have taken!

Clara Moore

I am so happy that I chose CharlieTheTraveler to take my trip.

01-Feb-2021

My trip to North Brazil totally rocked! I am so happy that I chose CharlieTheTraveler to take my trip. They included 2 weeks of pure fun in action-packed day trips and nature tours. I never imagined I would be riding buggies on the beach and swimming with dolphins on a trip I didn’t have to plan for. It was the best trip I’ve ever taken and I will be definitely getting my friends to book a group tour in the future.
