Day 1: Arrive in Rome

Location: Rome

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Dinner

Arrive in Rome for the start of this 10-day Europe tour! Meet the Expat Explore tour leader and your fellow travellers at midday. The travel adventures begin with a locally guided tour of Rome. Meet the local guide in the city centre and get ready to be introduced to the incredible history of this unique city. Rome once reigned supreme as the focal point of the Roman Empire. The local guide will point out the city’s history and highlights such as the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Roman Forum and, of course, the Colosseum. Enjoy a group welcome dinner tonight.

Day 2: Rome: Optional Free Day

Location: Colosseum, Vatican City, Rome, Sistine Chapel

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Rome boasts ancient ruins, historical landmarks, religious buildings and a buzzing atmosphere like no other. The Colosseum is spectacular, offering fabulous views of the city and an unbelievable feeling of drifting backwards in time, to when gladiators, chariots and lions dominated the arena. Later this afternoon, take the opportunity to join the optional excursion to visit the Vatican City - the smallest country in the world! Inside the walls you can visit the Sistine Chapel and see for yourself the famous ceiling painted by Michelangelo, as well as numerous other famous art pieces dotted around the buildings.

Day 3: Rome - Siena - Venice

Location: Venice, Siena

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

The first stop of the day is the Tuscan town of Siena, which is famous for its cuisine, wine, art, museums, medieval cityscape and the Palio, a horse race held twice a year. Enjoy time to explore before continuing on the journey. Later, arrive in Venice in the early evening. This city has been immortalised in literature, film and art for centuries. Its timeless waterways and artistic masterpieces (more per square kilometre than anywhere else on earth!) make it truly unique. This is a city that will capture your heart and imagination. There’s no shortage of incredible food and culture either! The evening is free. Choose to relax at the hotel, or explore Venice with the option to join your tour leader on a twilight water taxi cruise of the Venetian canals.

Day 4: Venice

Location: Via Murano & Via Burano, Venice

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Start the full day in Venice with an orientation tour of the floating city. Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore at your leisure. Every visit to Venice should include a gondola ride, which your tour leader can organise for you, as well as a trip further out into the lagoon to visit Murano and Burano. These islands are famous for their glass-blowing and lace-making crafts respectively, and rows of beautiful multi-coloured houses. Back in the heart of the city, why not sample some of Venice’s culinary delights on an optional food tour? Enjoy all three of these optionals, select one or simply wander around this enchanting city at your own pace today.

Day 5: Venice - Swiss Alps

Location: Swiss Alps, Jungfrau

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Crossing the border into Switzerland, travel through the scenic Swiss Alps, climbing higher into the mountains to the accommodation in a typical Swiss mountain village in the Jungfrau region. One of the most popular alpine destinations, it’s a great introduction to the magic of the mountains – and makes for a memorable drive too! Dinner is at the hotel and afterwards enjoy time to relax and chat with your fellow explorers. Grab an early night tonight before the free day to experience the Swiss Alps tomorrow!

Day 6: Swiss Alps: Optional Free Day

Location: Swiss Alps

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Enjoy a free day to explore and take in the spectacular local scenery. One of the must-see highlights of this tour is to take the optional excursion train ride to the ‘Top of Europe’ – Jungfraujoch. The views will leave you breathless (and that isn’t just because of the high altitude!) This 4000m glacier has a beauty all of its own, and the combination of ice, snow, rock and epic views will stay with you for life. There is snow all year round, even in the middle of summer! Complete the day with an optional Swiss fondue dinner for an authentic taste of Switzerland.

Day 7: Swiss Alps - Black Forest

Location: Black Forest, Swiss Alps, Freiburg

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Leaving the Swiss Alps behind, travel across the border into Germany. The route winds through the magnificent Black Forest. Get ready for the scenic drive of a lifetime! The forest is known for its incredible beauty so prepare to be mesmerised by the babbling brooks, towering pine trees and quaint villages. Enjoy stopovers at small towns along the way. This includes Freiburg, where there is free time for lunch. Dinner is included at a local restaurant in the Black Forest region this evening.

Day 8: Black Forest - Rhine Valley - Amsterdam

Location: Amsterdam, Rhine Valley Gmbh

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Auf Wiedersehen Schwarzwald (Black Forest)! It’s time to travel to the beautiful Rhine Valley. From Saint Goar, take a boat cruise to the next river stop of Boppard. Watch vineyards, castles, forests and towers roll by while relaxing on board. Disembark and enjoy a wine tasting at a local cellar. The Rhine Valley is renowned for cultivars like Riesling and Gewürztraminer. Next, journey on to Amsterdam. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and settle into the accommodation for the night.

Everything I had expected and more

01-Oct-2022

It was my first time traveling to Europe so I was nervous about everything including finding my way around, speaking the languages, and finding lodging. It turned out to be an incredible experience, I couldn't ask for a better your guide. Luke truly is the best in the business and we were so lucky o have him on the last tour of the season. I am definitely going to recommend Expat to my family and friends when they want to travel to Europe. I am going to go as far as finding out when Luke will be the guide and have family/friends specifically book the tour with him.

Outstanding!

25-Sep-2022

From orientation to farewell dinner Martina was always there to ensure that everyone was happy and enjoying the tour! It was fast paced, especially with the added excursions, but the tour covered the best of Italy and Martina was absolutely the best. She was entertaining and informative. Look forward to another tour with her!!

Perfect combination of sites, history, culture and food

19-Oct-2022

The highlights of Japan tour with Expat Explore was the ideal way to see the country. It had the perfect mix of big cities, small quaint villages, historical sites and food! The tour was well organised and a good pace to enjoy the various places and activities. We had the opportunity to be immersed in local culture and try the cuisine in a range of dining experiences. The hotels were clean and roomy to rest for days filled with adventures. Japan with Expat should be on your wish list!

Such a great trip and saw so many places, if we did this trip on our own I think we would only get half of what we did done in this time period. It definitely was busy with not much down time but we didn’t pay to go be bored. Beautiful and memorable trip!

A great tour made even better by our tour leader Marty. She was so knowledgeable and helpful. Made us laugh, showed us amazing sites and always had great recommendations.

Really nice experience

26-Oct-2022

Loved the small country towns. Very beautiful MARTY AND ALEX THE DRIVER , made the tour experience perfect for me. She is a brilliant guide.

Disappointed

Totally exhausted

05-Oct-2022

I need a holiday to recover from this full-on, insufficient down time, tour. Late hotel arrivals, late city tours, late dinners and excessive walking due to public transport use and then early morning starts. And to top it off, no seat rotation (tour leader advised on day 2 for covid reasons) which made sense on day 2 but not by day 3 or 4 when we had been grouped together at meals, on walking tours, and sharing rooms with people we had just met...merrily spreading our germs between our group anyway! This seating rule however was waived for a special few...those who insisted that they get travel sickness (and must sit in the front seat) and..those who think the rule is not for them and aren't challenged by the tour leader anyway. No seat rotation also meant not getting the opportunity to get to know everyone on the tour on an equal basis.
