Kolukkumalai Trekking with Night stay in Tent

I booked a package to be picked up in Kochi to go to Munnar and do the Kolukkumalai sunrise walk. It was a great experience: my driver was great, very knowledgeable (and a good photographer): he would suggest certain sights and shops on the way from Kochi to Munnar, making the long drive fun and entertaining. Kolukkumalai at sunrise is gorgeous! And the tent stay was fun as well (pack warm nightwear!) - and the food delicious!

This place is at the top of kolukkumalai peak and well within the tea estate.The Jeep drive through the rocks is an experience that will live with you. This place is only for people who are in good health and the ride is not suitable for children less than 4 and old people above age of 60.After we reach the parking lot following a 7-kilometer bumpy ride, we have a trek in complete darkness (if you reach early to view the sun rise like we did). A torch would be useful; we used our cell phones only. However, we will forget all this ordeal once we see the cloud cover kissing the peaks of the western Ghats and the stars in the sky. The sun rising is awesome, and the views are breathtaking. Never miss this place if you are in good health and are chasers of sunrise.This is a must visit if you plan a trip to Munnar. It is very cold in the early morning at the top of the cliff, so it is better to take warm clothing and cover your throat and ears.

Never miss this place when you're around Munnar... However, it is a bit far from town, ,but worth visiting for sunrise 🌅. Worth spending some time . They do some trekking also....

The ascent of approximately 7 Km to the peak of Kolukummalai peak was orderly in a single file of "Mahindra Jeeps"..After a short Winding drive through the mountain road the horror of horrors road show began. I have traveled across the globe and India by sea, air, rail and road but never in my life did I encounter such bad roads as the ascending road to " Kolukkumalai Sunrise viewpoint". Finally at 0610 hrs reached Kolukkumalai and was amazed at the convoy of jeeps parked serially along the narrow mountain road pathway..It was a short walk of approximately 10 mins in darkness through a narrow path from the jeep parking lot to the main " viewing point.". Recommend carrying a torch .There was a large crowd and we were in time to watch the amazing sight of the Sun's rays and later the Sun gradually rising at 0637 hrs, worth the money and World's most dangerous jeep ride. If visiting Munnar do not leave without a visit to Kolukummalai Sunrise point.

Stunning view. Witnessing the sunrise from this mountaintop was a divine experience. The only way to get there is by a 4WD Jeep as there is no proper road. The drive, however, is very hard on you. The walk to the top as fairly easy.
