Day 1: Broome / Dampier Peninsula / Cygnet Bay

Location: Broome / Dampier Peninsula / Cygnet Bay

Accommodation: Camping

Welcome to Broome! Or Rubibi, in the language of the Yawuru people, who are the Traditional Owners of the land on which Broome is now located. Start your 4WD adventure on the Dampier Peninsula – you’ll visit the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community and the remote One Arm Point Aboriginal Community to tour a local aquaculture hatchery perched on the tip of One Arm Point, which overlooks the impressive Buccaneer Archipelago. Take in the views, then continue to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. Take a tour of the farm, which provides insight into the remote pearling industry. After, take a swim in the infinity pool that looks over Cygnet Bay and head to an included group dinner to get to know your fellow travellers a little better.

Day 2: Eighty Mile Beach / The Pilbara

Location: Eighty Mile Beach / The Pilbara

Accommodation: Camping

Meals Included: breaksfast, lunch, dinner

After breakfast, drive south this morning to start your journey across the Great Sandy Desert. Stop at the coastal oasis of Eighty Mile Beach along the way – famous for its magnificent sunsets, sunrises, fishing opportunities and shell collecting. Here, you can stroll along the beautiful white-sand beach, enjoy a group lunch and relax. Tonight, you’ll stay in the remote town of Sandfire, where you’ll sit down for a group dinner before a spot of stargazing.

Day 3-4: Karijini National Park

Location: Karijini National Park

Accommodation: Camping

This morning, you’ll make your way to the remote but spectacular Karijini National Park, where you’ll spend the next two days exploring the ancient gorges and stunning swimming holes. Begin your Karijini experience with a visit to the Karijini Cultural Centre before heading for Fortesque Falls, where you’ll be rewarded with a refreshing swim. The next two days are spent exploring, swimming and relaxing in the magnificent Karijini Gorges. As one of the oldest landscapes on earth, this region will continue to amaze you. Explore a number of gorges, including Weano Gorge, Oxers Lookout, Hancock Gorge and more. Spend the nights in a Karijini camp, having group dinners over the campfire under the stars.

Day 5-7: Ningaloo Reef / Coral Bay

Location: Ningaloo Reef / Coral Bay

Accommodation: Backpacker Dorm Share Accommodation

Leave Karijini this morning and travel through the vast bushland and station country on the way to Exmouth. Spend the next three nights in an excellent private campsite at Yardie Creek Station, where you can kick back and watch the sunset as kangaroos hop around the grounds. The following day, enjoy a little freedom and relaxation. Maybe go snorkelling (equipment provided) or diving, maybe search for whale sharks if the season is right or view Vlamingh Head Lighthouse. If you’d rather, just kick back on the pristine beach at Turquoise Bay and soak up the sunshine. In the afternoon, make the short trip to beautiful Coral Bay, where you can spend the rest of the day snorkelling the world-famous Ningaloo Reef and seeing the marine life under the waterline. Alternatively, thrill-seekers can choose one of the many optional activities here.

Day 8: Shell Beach / Monkey Mia / Shark Bay

Location: Shell Beach / Monkey Mia / Shark Bay

Accommodation: Backpacker Dorm Share Accommodation

Meals Included: breaksfast, lunch, dinner

Head south this morning after breakfast and cross the Tropic of Capricorn. Pass through the town of Carnarvon on the way, famous for its bananas, and maybe pick up some of nature’s snacks. Stop at unique Shell Beach – made up entirely of tiny shells – to stretch your legs and take photos before continuing to Monkey Mia, where you’ll be able to say hello to the famous wild dolphins that live here! Tonight, sit down for a group dinner to swap photos and dolphin stories.

  • Is this trip right for you

This trip is operated and run by our trusted partner, Kimberley Wild Expeditions. You will be travelling with a mixture of both Kimberley Wild Expeditions customers and Intrepid customers.

On some days of this trip, you’ll spend many hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Sit back and enjoy landscapes that you’d miss in any other form of travel. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. Think of it as a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. The drive days can be long, but it's as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie!

This trip involves some camping out in nature (or staying in backpacker-style dormitory accommodation, including bunk beds) so the facilities are very basic. It is definitely a trip for either younger, fit travellers or the young at heart and fit in body! A lack of emphasis on creature comforts makes this an authentic experience of the Australian outback. Some locations will have little to no Internet connection or phone service.

This trip involves activities like hiking on uneven terrain and clambering over boulders. It is best suited to travellers with good mobility and fitness. Details on physical activities can be found in the itinerary.

North American Adventure

This was my first international solo trip, but I never felt “alone” - there was always someone to go shopping, hike, or grab a quick bite with. The itinerary was a great balance between organized activities, while still allowing free time for exploring. Each location was unique and charming in its own way. Spending the night in the holy city of Moulay Idriss and wandering the winding streets of Chefchaouen were especially memorable. Thank you Mustapha and Intrepid for an incredible adventure!

Amazing Guatemala and beyond tour with Intrepid

13-Dec-2022

Did Guatemala and beyond trip in November 22. It was amazing, we were so well looked after by our guide Aura. She was very knowledgeable and during our bus trips she gave us the history of the 4 countries. The border crossings can be tricky but handled very well by our guide. We saw all the most interesting and beautiful places. The hotels were lovely comfortable colonial style. I will travel with intrepid again

Wonderful Croatian tour

02-Dec-2022

Our tour guide,Tamara, was the highlight of our Explore Croatia tour. She was knowledgeable, organized, and so kind and fun. Croatia is a beautiful country. I loved the people, the scenery, the food, the history. I hope to go back one day. Intrepid was perfect for me. There was group time and there was plenty of free time. It wasn’t a luxury tour but all of our accommodations were clean and safe. The dinner in Hvar was SO special!

North Morocco Adventure

25-Oct-2021

Touring the beautiful North of Morocco I learned far more than I’d anticipated in this 9 day tour. Interesting sights to see, with knowledgeable local guides, this tour provides a great balance of exposure to a different culture with ample time for relaxation. Chefchaouen is an absolute highlight, & not a place many Morocco trips of this kind go to. Loved it!

Essential Morocca

21-Oct-2021

Essential Morocco was an absolute dream. Every single day had such informative walking tours and tours of local facilities. Whether it was dinner with a local family or visiting a pottery factory, I learned so much about Moroccan culture. The accommodations were safe and I felt secure the entire 11 days. This trip wouldn’t have been the same without one person. That person is Youssef. If you are coming to Morocco with Intrepid and you don’t request Youssef, you’re doing it wrong. Words cannot describe how incredible of a guide he is. There were 3 of us on our trip of 18-29 year olds and he made us all feel so welcome and safe all the time. Whether that is cracking jokes on long drives or giving us the itinerary for the next day, Youssef ensured we felt respected and seen.

Absolutely superb leader - knowledgeable. fun, safety conscious. Group of 15 travellers from 5 countries who bonded into a solid team. In addition to a fantastic itinerary, our leader’s love of karaoke made the trip unforgettable. It even inspired a song written as a tribute to him.
