Itinerary

Day 1: Toronto

Location: Toronto

Accommodation: Hotel

Meet your group bright and early with a 9am start at the hotel in Toronto, before departing on your 3-hour drive to Sandbanks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County. Sandbanks is considered one of the best sand beaches in Ontario and is also home to the world’s largest baymouth barrier dune formation. You’ll explore it all as you tackle the Dunes Trail, which loops through a unique and fragile dune habitat and rare wetlands on the shores of Lake Ontario. Discover a world of giant sand dunes and white, sandy beaches dotted with plants such as cornflower and milkweed. Afterwards, transfer by private vehicle to nearby Belleville (approximately 35 minutes), where you’re free to unwind at your hotel, or head out and explore town.

Included Activities:
-Sandbanks Provincial Park - Hike

Day 2: Prince Edward County / Belleville

Location: Prince Edward County / Belleville

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: breaksfast

Saddle up for a bike ride along the Millennium Trail, a 46-km route that weaves past farmers’ fields and vineyards and is the perfect way to experience the tranquility of The County. We won't do the entire trail!
Be sure to bring some spending money, as your ride will include several stops for tastings at local wineries, microbreweries and cideries – such as a small-batch beer in the Gillingham Brewery beer garden, a glass of wild yeast fermented wine at Trail Estate Winery, and a dry, traditional cider at the award-winning Loch Mor. Your leader may have some other personal favourites to recommend. And don’t forget your bathing suit, so you can swim in the waves at the popular Wellington Beach.

Included Activities:
-Prince Edward County - Bike Ride

Day 3: Algonquin Provincial Park

Location: Algonquin Provincial Park

Accommodation: Camping (no facilities)

Meals Included: breaksfast, lunch, dinner

It’s an early morning start today around 7am, as you drive to Algonquin Provincial Park (approximately 4.5 hours), for an adventure in backcountry camping. For 2 days and 2 nights, unwind in this area of rocky ridges and lakes, where the canoe is the only means of transport, and your only neighbours will be the native wildlife of moose, deer, beavers and wolves. Your trip starts on Canoe Lake, an important access point into the park. After crossing the channel between the Gilmour, Wapomeo and Cook islands, you’ll reach your first portage, into Joe Lake (295 m). From Joe Lake, you’ll paddle north and then east. Depending on water level you’ll have the option of portaging or following a shallow creek around the portage route towards Baby Joe Lake. After a short paddle on the glass-like waters of Baby Joe Lake, you’ll arrive at the last portage, into Burnt Island Lake (200 m). This is where you’ll set up camp. Don’t worry if you’ve never wilderness camped before – your leader will teach all you need to know about responsible backcountry camping.

Included Activities:
-Algonquin Provincial Park - Canoeing

Day 4: Algonquin Provincial Park

Location: Algonquin Provincial Park

Accommodation: Camping (no facilities)

Meals Included: breaksfast, lunch, dinner

Wake up to nature in your backcountry campsite and enjoy the tranquillity of Ontario’s oldest provincial park. In your empty canoe, paddle out to the massive Burnt Island Lake, considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Algonquin. For lunch, head back to your campsite, then tear down and pack up for your next camping experience. Paddle back to Joe Lake and set up for your second night in backcountry.

Included Activities:
-Algonquin Provincial Park - Canoeing

Day 5: Bruce Peninsula

Location: Bruce Peninsula

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: breaksfast, lunch

Today you’ll paddle out from the backcountry and hop back in the vehicle for a drive along Georgian Bay. This 5.5-hour drive will take you to the charming harbour town of Tobermory, at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula. The peninsula is a natural wonder, with the famous Niagara Escarpment – a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve – as its backbone. Hiking trails wind through the cedar forests and along its rocky shores, including part of the 782-km Bruce Trail, Canada’s oldest and longest footpath. One of the largest protected areas in southern Ontario, this is the place to explore jagged cliffs, waterfalls, thousand-year-old pine trees and sea stacks shaped like flowerpots. Marvel at the turquoise waters of Georgian Bay that are so crystal-clear they look more like a tropical sea than a Canadian waterway (although admittedly not quite as warm!). Upon arrival your afternoon is free to explore Tobermory at your leisure.

Included Activities:
-Bruce Peninsula National Park

Day 6: Bruce Peninsula

Location: Bruce Peninsula

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: breaksfast

Today, head out on a hike to explore the gorgeous Georgian Bay Marr Lake Trail. This trail is the quickest path to the park’s scenic cliffs and shoreline, where it meets up with the Bruce Trail. At Halfway Rock Point, take in the excellent vista, with Flowerpot and Bear's Rump islands on the horizon – part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park. From here, the trail enters Indian Head Cove, favoured by both swimmers and SCUBA divers for its crystal-clear waters. West of the cove are two sea caves, the Natural Arch, and further along, the Grotto, both carved from the rock face by centuries of waves beating on the porous dolomite of the cliffs. You’ll return to Tobermory via Marr Lake’s cobble beach. You’ll need to put in some work for this portion, as the route is challenging, crossing over boulders along the shore between the Grotto and Marr Lake. Your afternoon is free to further explore the peninsula, with the option to head out in a kayak on those oh-so-blue waters.

Included Activities:
-Bruce Peninsula National Park - Hike

Optional Activities:
-Bruce Peninsula National Park - Kayaking

Day 7: Toronto

Location: Toronto

Meals Included: breaksfast

Today you’ll have your last moments to enjoy the Bruce Peninsula before hitting the road and heading back to Toronto (approximately 4 hours). Your trip will end upon arrival in the early afternoon.

Just leaving a review to share how much I enjoyed my Central America trip. I thought the guide, Aura was so knowledgeable and organised and clearly a great ambassador for Intrepid. She gave us lots of information on each region, helped us organise anything we needed and dealt with queries from passengers very well and diplomatically. She made the trip run smoothly. She was also keen to explain the Intrepid vision and how the company values making a difference to locals and is a credit to your company. I did Guatemala and beyond and thoroughly enjoyed it - very fast paced, lots to see and do and a great overview of the region. I would definitely recommend 👍

I just completed my first Intrepid tour which was 33 days travelling around Central America - I had the time of my life! It was great to have the benefit of a guide (Fluffy was amazing!) and be able to ask questions at any point, but I also liked the freedom that you were permitted throughout. The group tour made boarder crossings seamless and the whole process felt easy - there was never one hiccup. As a solo female traveller, I felt safe throughout, and I cannot recommend Central America enough - the people, the food, the sun and the activities were just amazing :) Can't wait to book my next adventure soon!

I have just come back home after doing Intrepid's 10-day Vietnam Express Northbound tour. What a SUPERB tour. We saw lots and did lots, it was jam-packed full of sights and activities. Our tour leader, Tam, was the best ever. Very knowledgeable, organised and lots of fun too. The other 10 people on the group were all lovely. The places we visited were very interesting. We even visited local homes and ate just like the local people do. I highly recommend Intrepid to anyone considering touring a new country. This was my 5th tour with them and they have consistently been fantastic.

We booked the 10 day Group Explorer package with them for Vietnam and Wow !!! . It was fantastic. We were initially a bit anxious, but that all settled after day one. There is a fair bit of travelling and moving involved, but we'll woth it as you get to see and experience loads .Our Guide Huy was brilliant and looked after us really well from local knowledge to restaurants and tour information and activities . It's worth doing folks with intrepid . Well done, keep up that standard of service.

I have travelled with Intrepid a number of times now and can't recommend them enough. The trips are always exciting, full of history and immersive in the culture and environment. The office staff are great too and always happy to help with any questions you might have. Everywhere I have gone with the company has been different but the guides and itinerary have always been excellent and full of knowledge and passion for their country. Add in the social responsibility angle the company has and it top quality ethical practice and you can't go wrong

15-Mar-2024

I recently went on an 11 day tour of India with Intrepid and was impressed with every aspect of the tour, the tour leader and the organisation behind the scenes. I always travel alone so it was a big deal to join a tour, I didn't want to feel less independent or ferried about. I loved being part of a group and the things we saw and did on the tour, I would never have known about or seen if I had been by myself. I loved it from start to finish. Yes the overnight trains were not easy to sleep on, but I managed. Meeting locals on board was a high light for me. English is widely spoken in India and its amazing who you strike up a chat with. I had two problems on the tour - one my own fault and one hotel related. The support from Intrepid was amazing. I cannot thank them enough for going the extra mile to support me. I recommend Intrepid 100% and have gone from thinking an organised tour is for people who don't know about Lonely Planet and can't do solo stuff, to realising its a faster, better, more fun way to get to know a country truly and deeply whilst on a bit of a budget. I will book again and again with Intrepid. I loved it that much! Big thanks to tour leader Daddy H. Devender for his help on day one, and Nick in the Oz office for his fab customer care skills. Also the person who staffed the emergency whatsapp in India - you saved my sanity helping me get there a day late! THANK YOU ALL X

North American Adventure

12-Oct-2021

This was my first international solo trip, but I never felt “alone” - there was always someone to go shopping, hike, or grab a quick bite with. The itinerary was a great balance between organized activities, while still allowing free time for exploring. Each location was unique and charming in its own way. Spending the night in the holy city of Moulay Idriss and wandering the winding streets of Chefchaouen were especially memorable. Thank you Mustapha and Intrepid for an incredible adventure!

They offer some great deals and group travel itineraries without the flights but will include them if needed by the traveller ; leaving one to choose a more personal holiday stance or exploration & time schedule too. Neat!
