Mode of Transport

The Tuk-Tuk

Okay, we’ll admit, the old-style Cambodian Auto-remorque Moto was not the most attractive of vehicles. It probably would never have featured in a James Bond car chase any time soon. So we have replaced it with the far more modern Indian made Tuk-Tuk or Auto-Rickshaw. We have no idea why they named it twice but what we do know is that what it lacks in raw V8 power and Bluetooth connectivity, it makes up for in fun.
They’ve got three wheels (don’t ask us why), an open frame, a canvas roof with drop down sides, a cabin for the driver and two seats in the back. Oh, and an engine: a 4-stroke beast that is probably slightly more powerful than a horse. Tuk-Tuks have a few advantages: they’re durable, easy to use and very forgiving. They’ll happily handle almost any surface, climate or level of abuse. Their cruising speed is a tasty 35kph (22mph). Their cruising altitude is about one foot.
Remorque-motos are basically a motorcycle attached to a rickshaw. The power is transferred by chain to an axle mounted to the modified rear fork which drives the two rear wheels. Suspended upon the rear fork is an open cabin with an in-line seat on each side.

These guys are reliable, efficient and pretty user-friendly. You can throw pretty much anything in Cambodia at them and the chances are good they’ll take it with a smile.

Check out our Q&As

  • Can you assist with pre or post tour accommodation?

Yes, we can assist with pre and/or post tour accommodation.

  • Are airport transfers included in this tour?

No, airport transfer is not included, but can be arranged.

  • Are flights included in this tour?

    No, flights are not included.

  • What Ethical Travel credentials does the tour company have?

When you book a Large Minority challenge, up to 5% of your trip price is automatically donated to our flagship projects in the country you’ve picked to visit. And there’s more too. You’ll actually get to stop-in and see these projects on the ground. You’ll meet the kids, learn a bit about the community initiative and understand exactly where your money went. Cue the warm and fuzzy feels. When picking these foundation projects, we put a big emphasis on education. We don’t want to get all Presidential about this, but we really believe the kids are our future. We really think travel can make the world a better place, and to do that we’ve focused our meaningful travel efforts on three main areas: environment, learning resources and leisure activities. We organise these projects through local public schools (with a helping hand from a few hand-picked local charities and NGOs). The NGO or organisation provides all the logistical stuff, while the beneficiary school handles the ground level prep and the official handing over event. Each project is monitored for 48 months to make sure it’s doing what we want it to do, then the successful models are rolled out in other areas of the country. Please read more under our Sustainability & Responsible Travel section (in our profile)

  • Can the route change?

We try to stick to the original route and accommodation as much as possible, but they can be subject to change from time to time. There may also be times when we have to split the reservations across two or more hotels due to capacity issues but we will always let you know.

  • Will the accommodation included meet local health and safety regulations?

Yes, our accommodation choices meet health & safety standards. We strongly believe that after a full day of dirty adventuring everyone should be treated to a little bit of luxury. We hand pick all of our accommodation and make sure it's just right for that little bit of down time after a hard day on the road. You won't be disappointed!

  • Am I contributing to any charity by booking the tour?

In addition to having the time of your life on our adventure challenges, you’ll be contributing to the lives of locals and the environment. 5% of every dollar we get goes straight back to our flagship charity projects in the countries we visit.

  • is there an age limit?

Yes, you’ve got to be at least 18 years old in order to participate. We don’t have a maximum age, but if you’re over 65 we definitely recommend checking with your insurer to make sure you qualify for the medical insurance you’ll need to take part. The Challenge is physically tough, but by no means extreme – we won’t sugar-coat it. You should really only take part if you’re in decent physical shape and your health is A-Okay.

Well they say your honeymoon should be something you never forget and this sure has been that!! Thanks to Julian and Juan from Large Minority for an amazing Cambo Challenge, we had a fab time and experienced Asia in a way you never would on your own. Unfortunately it has come to an end and we have to go home but the memories will last a lifetime…and we just have to start planning which challenge we do next!!
