We head along the Moselle River to the charming wine town of Cochem, dominated by the ancient and mighty Reichsburg Castle, dramatically perched on a hillside overlooking the town, then to Koblenz, the meeting point of the Moselle and Rhine rivers. We continue to Assmannshausen for a four-night stay.
Day 3 : Rudesheim

After a morning at leisure we spend the afternoon in the ever popular ‘wine town’ of Rudesheim, home to the vibrant ‘Drosselgasse’, a narrow alley lined with restaurants, shops and bars, many playing traditional Rhineland music and the perfect place to enjoy a glass of local wine or beer. Why not join our optional ‘Exploring Rudesheim’ excursion. We travel by road train to the cellars of Adolf Storzel where there will be the chance to sample some of the local produce. From here we continue to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum, where you can see one of the largest collections of self-playing mechanical musical instruments. Your guide will tell you about the various instruments and you will have the chance to listen to many of the instruments and fairground organs play their different tunes.
Day 4 : Rhine Valley

Marvel at the beautiful scenery of the Rhine Valley including medieval castles, picturesque villages and vine-clad slopes. We see the world-famous Loreley Rock; Boppard, where the splendid Rhine Promenade is situated; and St Goar, home to the world’s largest cuckoo clock shop. During the day enjoy an optional cruise along the Rhine, Germany’s largest river. Our cruise lasts for approximately 1 hour and will take us through the Rhine gorge, famous for its ancient castles, picturesque villages and vine clad slopes. Our cruise is a perfect way to view the splendour of the Rhine.
Day 5 : Free Time or Heidelberg

Today we enjoy time at leisure in Assmannshausen, or why not join us for an optional excursion to the ancient university town of Heidelberg. The city of Heidelberg enjoys a beautiful location on the banks of the River Neckar. It is often referred to as the ‘Romantic Town’ on account of its castle ruins and red sandstone buildings, which dominate the city. Heidelberg castle has been described as the most beautiful castle ruin of Germany, and enjoys a prominent location overlooking the town and from where the views across Heidelberg and the Neckar are astounding.
Day 6 : Cologne

We head to the vibrant city of Cologne which stands on the banks of the Romantic River Rhine and has many shops and boutiques. Cologne Cathedral, famous around the world, dominates the panorama of the city and is still today the second highest building in Cologne after the telecommunications tower. We continue to Belgium for an overnight stay.
