Tour Overview
A historic city, an open-air museum and a mysterious island crouching across a causeway that’s regularly cut off from the rest of the world during high tide...this short break has stunning Northumberland stamped all over it!
Itinerary
Day 1 : Holy Island of Lindisfarne
Holy Island is a must-visit on any break to Northumberland, accessed by a causeway and enjoying a unique sense of isolation when cut off by the tide.
Steeped in religious history and culture, this unspoilt island is the birthplace of the Lindisfarne Gospels but you don't need a religious reason to visit this area, with dramatic scenery provided by 16th-century Lindisfarne Castle and the surrounding wildlife creating wonderful photographic opportunities.
A trip to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne is the highlight of any coach break to Northumberland.
Day 2 : Durham
The heritage city of Durham is a real gem in the North East and a great place to visit all year round.
Overlooked by its World Heritage Castle and spectacular Cathedral, the city is a magnificent place, steeped in history and culture as well as a vibrant shopping destination.
Day 3 : The Beamish Open Air Museum
Step back in time to see for yourself what life was like in the North East at Beamish, one of Durham’s hottest tourist attractions.
Beamish is a living and working open-air museum which transports you back to the 1820s, 1910s and 1940s to celebrate the region’s rich heritage, brought to life by people dressed in authentic costumes.
A great attraction to centre on your break to Durham and the North East, with ticket admission and hotel accommodation included as part of your package deal with National Holidays.
Day 4 : Northumberland
If you’ve never been to Northumberland before you don’t know what you’re missing! England’s most northern county is a charming corner of the country which you will immediately fall in love with.
A hidden gem, Northumberland boasts some of the most dramatic and diverse natural scenery in the UK comprising vast unspoilt beaches, imposing castles, cobbled market towns and stunning wildlife.
