Day 1 : Included Excursions

Included Excursions

Severn Valley Railway & Blists Hill Victorian Town (full day)

We start the day by taking a charming trip on the Severn Valley Railway for a heritage train journey from Kidderminster to the ancient riverside town of Bridgnorth. The train meanders its way along the picturesque Severn Valley, passing sleepy towns and villages along the way.

Afterwards, we continue to Ironbridge where we travel back in time with our visit to the Blists Hill Victorian Town. Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of this reconstructed working-class town complete with a whole range of shops, factories, and buildings, along with costumed characters.

Ludlow Market (full day)

Today we make our way to Ludlow, famous for its market which has taken place for over 900 years. There’s plenty of time to explore the stalls and find yourself a hidden gem or an interesting hand-crafted gift – it’s the perfect place to shop for presents.

Shrewsbury & River Cruise (full day)

We travel to Shrewsbury, a fine medieval market town packed with timber-framed black and white buildings, a maze of narrow alleys and cobbled streets. Here we board our boat for a scenic cruise along the River Severn as it loops around the town. We enjoy light refreshments while we take in the beautiful views and learn about the town’s unique history from our captain’s commentary.

Day 2 : Severn Valley Railway

From children enthralled by the magical huffs, puffs and toots to adults wanting to take a step back in time to when rail travel had a romantic feel to it, the heritage Severn Valley Railway is sure to delight everyone!

Enjoy unspoilt views and breathtaking panoramas only visible by steam locomotive as you meander through the 16 miles of countryside and pass through many ‘olde worlde’ stations between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster.

A highlight of the trip is when the railway crosses over the River Severn via the Victoria Bridge - a massive 200-foot cast iron railway bridge which suspends high above the water and was featured in the film The Thirty-Nine Steps.

A journey on one of the most scenic heritage railways in the country won’t disappoint!

Day 3 : Blists Hill Victorian Town

A charming time travel experience is just around the cobbled-corner when you visit the award-winning Blists Hill Victorian Town. A fun family day out, with every step you’ll take a glimpse into the past and discover what it was like to live and work a traditional Victorian life.

Wander the streets and see what you find, from the town bank to the fairground, and the train ride into the mine. – Everything is authentic, from household ornaments to the piano in the pub. See craftspeople demonstrate their trades, meet the ‘Victorian’ townsfolk, take a ride in an open horse and cart, visit a Victorian shop and eat classic dishes like fish and chips and cream tea…

What an enjoyable and unique way to bring history to life!

Day 4 : Shrewsbury

Situated on the banks of the River Severn, the medieval market town of Shrewsbury is a delightful place to visit on a coach break to Shropshire and surrounding area with National Holidays.

The town is one of the UK’s most visited heritage cities, steeped in culture and history, which retains a timeless appeal thanks to its timber framed black and white buildings which line the maze of cobbled alleyways.

Today Shrewsbury enjoys a vibrant atmosphere with a bustling shopping scene, featuring a blend of designer shops and small independent boutiques, and calendar of festivals and events throughout the year.
