Itinerary

Day 1

Fly north, meet your friendly tour manager and board the coach to begin the journey to your hotel. Once there, take some time to rest and relax as you settle into your new surroundings. The Carrbridge Hotel is situated on the edge of the village, and acts a gateway to the scenic Cairngorms National Park, and there are some delightful local walks (the hotel staff will be happy to point you in the right direction). The famous old packhorse bridge, dating back to 1717 and reputed to be one of the oldest in the Scottish Highlands, is just opposite the hotel. This evening, you’ll have the chance to meet your fellow guests at a special Welcome Reception in the hotel’s Highland Suite. Later, enjoy dinner followed by some traditional entertainment – the perfect start to your festive break.

Day 2

After a relaxed breakfast, join your tour manager and fellow guests as you head west by coach to Fort William, huddled beneath mighty Ben Nevis at the gateway to the Great Glen. Here you’ll board a train for the 42-mile scenic journey on the last stretch of the famous West Highland Line, all the way to the tiny fishing village of Mallaig. Voted by readers of Wanderlust Magazine as Britains’s most scenic train journey, this spectacular route crosses the Caledonian Canal – look out for Neptune’s Staircase, a succession of eight locks built in the early 19th Century – then runs alongside Loch Eil and over the spectacular 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct, famously featured in the Harry Potter movies. Other highlights of this scenic journey include island-studded Loch Eilt, considered by many to be the prettiest along the route, Arisaig, Britain’s most-westerly railway station, and the Atlantic-washed sands of Morar, just south of Mallaig. Re-board the coach in Mallaig, and return to the hotel to begin your Christmas in earnest. Enjoy a second dinner in the company of your fellow guests, followed by some light-hearted entertainment. Why not join some of your new-found friends and stroll the 400 yards to Carrbridge Church in time for the traditional service?

Day 3

Merry Christmas! Enjoy a relaxed, informal day in the hotel, with plenty of opportunities to chat with your newfound friends over coffee and tea. After breakfast, you’ll have the chance to join the short Christmas Morning service at the Carrbridge Church, and then enjoy sherry in the lounge, followed by a full Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. A relaxed afternoon will be followed by a buffet dinner and the chance to enjoy a traditional Highland ceilidh band – a wonderful end to a wonderful Christmas Day.

Day 4

Spend today relaxing after yesterday’s festivities. Why not wrap up warm, after breakfast, and take a short walk around the village, take part in the village treasure hunt or join a light-hearted quiz in the bar? Alternatively, join your tour manager for an optional mystery tour to a nearby place of interest. However you decide to spend your last full day in the Scottish Highlands, re-join your new-found friends for a final night of Highland hospitality, enjoying dinner followed by live entertainment – the perfect way to complete a relaxing day.

Day 5

After breakfast, you'll bid farewell to the Highlands and travel back to the airport to check in for your return flight, at the end of some wonderful, festive days.

Help is at hand at Newmarket holidays

04-Jan-2023

I tried to book myself on line for an Andre Rieu concert in Vienna but I didn’t manage to complete the booking. I rang the next day & spoke to Sharon who was very helpful. I am a 76 year old pensioner & not totally au fa with the internet. However, Sharon went through it step by step & I felt more confident. She completed the booking for me & said she would also send a paper copy.

Newmarket Holidays…top dollar!

06-Jan-2023

Having booked late the service we received from Newmarket staff has been excellent - helpful, friendly, painstaking and above all going further than we could really expect to ensure our requests were all satisfied. We would like to particularly thank Naima for her attention to detail and perseverance in following up our queries. This is the first time we have tried NH but it wont be the last

This is the third holiday I have taken…

05-Nov-2021

This is the third holiday I have taken with Newmarket Holidays. They made it easy to change from the Holiday I originally booked to one in the UK. The tour leader was excellent as was our driver, both of whom went the extra mile to ensure we had a lovely holiday. There were difficulties at the hotel due to COVID but we were made very welcome and the staff went out of their way to help us. So I have no complaint about Newmarket's choice of hotel. I am a single traveller and normally do not like to travel in groups but the laidback atmosphere of Newmarket Holidays is fine.

Hurrah for Eddie and Simon, Newmarket's highlands duo!

26-Oct-2021

Very happy time on an action packed trip to the Scottish highlands. Eddie as tour manager and Simon as driver. Eddie shared his passion for Scottish history and between them they treated us to many unscheduled cultural stops that enhanced our holiday. They went above and beyond all the time. Train trips were amazing and views unforgettable. Hotel was welcoming and food was good. Hot water aplenty for bath. We wanted to escape to another world for a few days and we truly did. THANK YOU. Chris and Caroline

Canada October 2021

28-Oct-2021

We have returned from our long overdue trip to Canada Niagara Falls to the Rockies stating in Toronto and finishing in Vancouver. Well we happened to be the first trip back after the Coiid outbreak and it was so good to go. The company had made sure we were all safe and masks were worn where ever they had to be but this did not dampen the trip at all, the Tour directors ( guides ) were brilliant and we saw and did so much it was a fantastic trip which I would recommend to everyone, defiantly one for the bucket list.
