Tour Overview

This fascinating escorted tour begins in historic Halifax, gateway to beautiful 'New Scotland' and Cape Breton Island, with its scenic Cabot Trail, dramatic Highlands National Park, Gaelic culture and fiddle-playing heritage. Fly on to Montreal, French Canada's capital of style, and enjoy visits to exquisite Quebec City, elegant Canadian capital Ottawa and cosmopolitan Toronto - as well as stops along the Maple Leaf Trail - before the fascinating adventure ends with the unforgettable sight of breathtaking Niagara.
Itinerary
Day One
Fly across the Atlantic to Halifax, Nova Scotia, arriving by the afternoon to meet your Tour Manager. Transfer into the city, which was built around the world's second-largest natural harbour and once served the Royal Navy's North Atlantic base. Enjoy a first evening, perhaps dining on the historic harbour front.
Day Two
Today's optional excursion will bring to life the historic former colonial stronghold, with its Georgian clock tower beneath the fortified, hilltop Citadel that's home to a fascinating Army Museum. Other highlights might include tree-lined Grand Parade and St Paul's Church - the city's oldest building.
During a free afternoon, don't miss the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, where exhibits include artefacts from the ill-fated Titanic, or perhaps take a boat trip - either out to the outer fortifications that defended the harbour, or across to neighbouring Dartmouth. A 'must-do' Halifax treat is to try lobster, served throughout the city.
Day Three
Today's included tour heads south along the rugged coastline to the haphazardly arranged cottages and houses of fishing community Peggy's Cove, with its iconic lighthouse. The tour then continues with a visit to colourful Lunenburg, perched on a rocky peninsular and home to the historic Blue Nose II fishing schooner.
Day Four
Journey north through the scenic countryside of the former 'New Scotland', crossing the Canso causeway onto Cape Breton Island, for a two-night stay in famous yachting town Baddeck, beloved one-time home of Alexander Graham Bell. A visit is included to the museum commemorating the Scottish-born inventor and scientist, who lies at rest in the family estate just across the water.
Day Five
Today is spent absorbing the stunning scenery of Cape Breton Island. This is one of North America's most beautiful corners, home to the legendary Cabot Trail and the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The island is guardian of a deep-rooted Scottish musical heritage that boasts some of the world's most celebrated folk fiddle-players - a legacy of the Highland farmers who emigrated here. Return to Baddeck for a second evening.
Day Six
Make the journey back to Halifax and fly west to the great French-Canadian city of Montreal, to enjoy a three-night stay in this undisputed centre of style and sophistication. Transfer to your hotel on arrival and enjoy a first evening in Canada's vibrant second city.
Day Seven
Get to know the world's second-largest French-speaking metropolis on this morning's optional guided tour, which will take in the pretty Vieux Port area and the lively Plateau Mont Royal. This evening, step back in time, dining in belle epoque style on our optional Maple Delights dinner excursion.
Day Eight
Today's included excursion is to charming, historic Quebec City. This is one of Canada's oldest settlements, and is home to stunning Chateau Frontenac, ancient ramparts and an UNESCO-listed centre that overlooks the mighty St Lawrence River. Enjoy an optional walking tour, before returning to Montreal to spend a final evening soaking up the atmosphere.
Day Nine
Take your leave of Montreal and head along the 'Maple Leaf Trail' to enjoy an overnight stay in romantic Ottawa, Canada's beautiful administrative capital. Discover its Victorian houses and famous Rideau Canal set against the rolling Gatineau Hills on a guided introduction.
Day 10
Continue along the 'Maple Leaf Trail', passing handsome lakefront Kingston, gateway to the Thousand Islands, as you travel towards glittering Toronto. This wonderful city boasts stylish waterfront developments, the sky-piercing CN Tower, countless cafes and restaurants, and ultra-modern shopping malls.
Day 11
Travel to wondrous Niagara Falls, formed at the point where the languid Niagara River plunges over two cascades into a foaming cauldron - the misty spray and noise of which can be seen and heard from miles away. Marvel at the astonishing natural wonder, perhaps taking an optional helicopter ride above the tumult, or enjoy lunch in an overlooking restaurant. Return to spend a last evening in colourful Toronto.
Day 12
Enjoy a final morning's sightseeing or shopping, perhaps joining an optional guided city tour for an insight into one of North America's most cosmopolitan cities, before transferring to the airport for the return overnight flight.
Day 13
Arrive back in the UK, at the end of a truly unforgettable holiday.
