Day 1 : Horezu

Location: Horezu, Polovragi

1. HOREZU MONASTERY 2. POLOVRAGI CAVE 3. POLOVRAGI MONASTERY
In a two day trips, you will see the Horezu Monastery. Considered one of the most beautiful and refined orthodox monasteries, the Horezu Monastery with its 100% authentic Romanian architecture was included in the UNESCO World Heritage from the very beginning, with no sign that anything could ever surpass it.

Your trip to Romania should comprise, among other things, the most visited Romanian monasteries, including the Horezu Monastery, because this is where you can see the highly acclaimed Horezu ceramics, as well as the gorges carved in the mountain walls and the famous stone caves.
If you have been on expeditions in wet or dry caves before, you will be familiar with the haunting and eerily spiritual feeling you get once you enter the Polovragi Cave, which seems like it belongs to a different realm.

The warm and humid cave hosts many spectacular calcareous formations throughout the galleries that extend for over 10 km, of which only 800 m are open for visitation. Here you can see the Spring of Hope, the Bloody Vault, the White Room, the Divine Chamber, the Grim Reaper, the Dacian Oven, the King and Queen, Snow White and the Dwarfs’ House.
We are setting out on a journey through time, taking an imaginary leap to 500 years ago, when the Polovragi Monastery, a historical monument of great cultural and spiritual value, was built.

In addition to the superb religious artwork, here you get to see historical evidence of our existence and endurance on these lands, as well as a testament to our perseverance and faith in God.

Day 2 : Baia De Fier

Location: Baia de Fier, Targu Jiu

1. THE WOMEN’S CAVE 2. THE CONSTANTIN BRANCUSI ENSAMBLE IN TARGU JIU
The first question that comes to mind when you decide to take a private trip to the Women’s Cave, the most visited cave in Romania, is how it got this curious name.

The Romanian people have had a long and turbulent history, so in order to survive in these conflict-ridden lands, the men, being severely outnumbered, would have to resort to guerrilla warfare, while women and children would hide in caves such as this one to protect as much of their family as they could.

You will come into contact with ancient civilizations over 30.000 years old, which should be enough to make this trip worthwhile. But what we think will really peak your interest is the giant animal graveyard filled with calcified cave bear skeletons, as well as remains of other wild animals, like lions, hyenas, wolves, boars, foxes and even wild goats who had the misfortune to venture into the bears’ den.
Even if you do not harbor a passion for sculptural masterpieces, a Brancusi exhibit is a must-see for anyone taking a trip to Romania. The Constantin Brancusi Sculptural Ensemble in Targu Jiu, also known as the “Calea Eroilor” Memorial (Heroes Way), is more than a beautiful display of stone and wood craftsmanship, it is a symbol of the Romanian spirit.

The ensemble consists of four sculptures, laid out on a 1275 m axis – The Table of Silence, The Chairs Alley, The Gate of the Kiss and the Infinity Column/Endless Column, which surprise through their simple, yet deeply symbolic design.

Nicolas is a 5-star-plus guide!...

09-Oct-2023

Nicolas is a 5-star-plus guide! Highly recommended! Whatever time period you are interested in, ancient, recent history, or modern times, Nicolas can take you on the journey. He has a gifted way to explain situations in a contextual and approachable way, sprinkled with some humor. He also took us a bit off the beaten path, showing neighbourhoods and giving us a "taste" of Romania, quite literally (Omnomnom)! Recommended for the Bucharest city tour, and he also does tours in the rest of Romania! Thanks for a great tour Nicolas!

Had a lovely afternoon with Nicolas! We spend the whole afternoon in Bucharest with him. He took us to the most interesting places and also to places off the beaten track. Especially loved that one! He showed us around by car which I was very happy to have. In the city i would highly recommend to use a car if you would like to see the town. Lovely afternoon with a very awesome and attentive guide. Thank you!

To take the road is a lot a fun and my humble opinion is that it’s taking time and you have to enjoy your trip. The small waterfalls in the way up , the view, the mountains... everything creates a beautiful experience... is not only the road is everything 😊

If you love nature, bees,...

04-Sep-2021

If you love nature, bees, organic bio produse, and admirable people that dedicate their life to sustainable businesses, you will LOVE this tour. We booked a day trip to visit the bees with our guide Nicolas, he picked us up on time in a top of the line vehicule, drove safely and made quick stops when needed for bathroom visits. We had a lovely time, he answered all our questions and shared incredible stories about the honey industry, personal bee keeping adventures, and beekeepers in Romania and abroad, plus treated us to some artisanal romanian pretzels that were delicious. The drive from Bucharest to the location where the bees were was mind blowing: views of rivers, mountains, forests and villages. Romania has nothing to envy other countries in regards to natural beauty. After 4hrs we arrived to the bees location. Nicolas's father has been a nomad bee keeper for almost 40 years, spending spring and summer taking the bees to areas of Romania where they can find organic, pesticides free, flowers of all kinds, carefully ensuring the bees are able to produce enough honey for their own needs to grow healthy colonies and survive the winter, plus a surplus that Mr. Nicolas senior gathers to provide people like me and you with honey, bee wax, royal jelly and more. Nothing is wasted. Additionally, they are always available to rescue bees in need and adopt them into their colonies. I spent time with the bees, saw them carry polen back to their hives, learned a bunch of new info, and the biggest gift was to see a queen bee (I admit I cried a little). It was a beautiful experience to see such a loving collaborative relationship between Mr. Nicolas, the bees, nature, and his dogs, that protect him every night from bears craving honey, curious wolves and all wild life. I left inspired, in love and motivated to continue supporting small businesses, buying local, exploring nature, and learning from people like Mr. Nicolas. Do yourself a favor, reach out to Nicolas and book this tour for next spring! they gifted us 2 small jars of honey and we bought 3 big jars of different kinds, and after trying it at home, my husband and I suspect we had never eating pure real honey before, this is what Mana is made of. If you are as lucky as us, Mr. Nicolas will make for you mamaliga and roasted pork (grown and raised by him), served with bio cow cheese made by a friend of his in the mountains, plus a few shots of suica, also made by Mr. Nicolas himself. It was the best meat I have eaten in the past +6 years and the richest licor. Cant wait to go back next year ♥️ see you with the bees!

Excellent places, unforgettable experiences for my 10 year old kid to see the caves with Nicolas experience Tours. We expect other challenges that are at least as attractive. Keep it that way, Nicolas!
