Together We Can

This tour was one of the absolute highlights of our whole time in Africa. One Horizon is doing an amazing work to empower the otherwise families to climb out of poverty and affecting future generations in perpetuity. Our guide Carol was on-time, professional, and very endearing. Once we got to the village, we had the most amazing time... we laughed and sang, prepared a meal together and ate, they shared their stories, and we got a first-hand understanding of how One Horizon is dramatically impacting one family at a time. What a truly remarkable organisation. This tour is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the time and money!

Been welcomed at airport by amazing Nairobi lady who introduced us to the Kenya way of life straight away. We have an amazing discussion comparing life of western and African educated and advanced women. We have also enjoyed the cheerful one-hour bus ride with other tourists from other corners of the world to the Maasai land out of Nairobi. The time with the Maasai group of men and women of all ages dressed in their traditional attire taking us to their huts and showing us their daily routine looking after cattle, making fences from the local tough plant and making jewellery for their colourful head dresses seemed like a dream. It was very interesting to listen to one wise Maasai mother of four how the lives are changing for their offsprings even for girls who have fewer rights than boys, and she dreams about the time they get western education too. It was interesting to also talk to a Maasai teenager who very skilfully was able to merge both cultures to his full advantage, studying in Kenya

The communications from the tour operator were excellent. The trip itself far exceeded our expectations. Meeting and speaking with the women both at the women's centre and spending time with Masai women in their homes was one of the best experiences in our lives. We found the women to be open about their difficult lives, and among the most dignified human beings we have ever met. They were working hard to improve their lives and that of their children. They were learning skills that would help them become independent and able to support themselves. They were given emotional and financial support along with training that would change their lives in the difficult environment of where they live. They are truly given a hand up and not just a hand out. This experience was not only inspiring to us but has changed our lives.

Communication is friendly and professional at the same time, service was fully adjusted to the individual needs it was more than we expected. The safari tour is our life experience. I continuously share information about this project among university students during my lectures in the field of business communication. This is great example of the humanitarian project that includes local community needs. Students like the idea very much. We all can learn about patience, empathy and hard work from all of you. I wish you a lot of success!

My friends and I took The Masai Magic day trip with One Horizon in July 2019. We were headed home from a week on safari when our flight was cancelled, and we ended up with an unexpected extra day in Nairobi. One Horizon was able to put together a day trip for our small group on very short notice. Our day with One Horizon allowed us to meet a Masai family and to learn about traditional Masai practices. We had fun learning beading, singing, and dancing! But it also allowed us to connect with Kenyans on a personal level. We had the privilege of hearing Agnes's difficult personal story as the sixth wife of an elderly Masai man, learnt about Rispa's struggles to gain a measure of respect and independence, and learnt about One Horizon's work to empower Kenyan women. Caroline, the One Horizon staffer who led our group, made sure that we were comfortable and that we had our needs met on the trip itself. She also gave us insights into the daily life and daily struggles of Kenyans. Highly recommended.
