The tour will treat you to a number of UNESCO sites, including Matera and Alberobello, where you will experience staying in traditional accommodation of the region. We will also visit other surrounding highlights, like the seafront town of Monopoli and the Baroque treasures of Lecce, including several hidden gems of Roman remains. You will get a chance to sample some fantastic culinary delights in local trattorie and see first-hand local focaccia and mozzarella making. Itinerary
Day 1 (L, D)
Arrival. Stop for an afternoon exploration of the fishing town of Trani, known as a crucial disembarkation port for the crusades to the Holy Lands. This harbourside setting hosts a seafood lunch before transferring to Alberobello to check-in to traditional accommodation.
Overnight: Alberobello
Day 2 (B, L, D)
Morning guided walk of the UNESCO town of Alberobello before transferring to the nearby and beautiful ‘Masseria Aglio-Piccolo’. This countryside location affords an opportunity to witness how local mozzarella and focaccia is produced. Followed by a light lunch in the Masseria itself.

Day 3 (B)
Free-day at leisure for a chance to explore, discover or just sit and watch the world go by.

Day 4 (B, D)
Today offers a full day excursion to the stunning UNESCO town of Matera, used for the filming of Passion of the Christ and Ben Hur, amongst many other stories of the silver screen. The town boasts some captivating churches, however the real highlight is the cave dwellings of the Sassi quarter where the local inhabitants used to live and work for their entire lives.

Day 5 (B, D)
Depart to Locorotondo and the hilltop ‘white town’ of Ostuni in the Valle D’Itria. Enjoy a short guided walk around its charming whitewashed historic centre whilst admiring the far-reaching views across to the sea. En route back to Alberobello, stop at a medieval masseria (farmhouse) to sample some of the famous Puglian olive oil.

Day 6 (B, L)
Short drive to Polignano, a pretty Puglian village built on a promontory entirely surrounded by sea. Enjoy time exploring before continuing to Monopoli with its interesting churches, castle and harbourside.

Day 7 (B, D)
Depart to the baroque treasure that is Lecce, known as the ‘Florence of the South’. Guided walk around this beautiful city with its vibrant historic centre teeming with street cafes and shops. The main sights include the Basilica di Santa Croce and the breath-taking Piazza Duomo, as well as the many hidden Roman remains. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 8 (B)
Departure. Transfer to Bari airport for return flights to London.
