Itinerary

Expand All

Day 1 : Days 1-2 - London, Turin & Cadenabbia

After meeting at our London St Pancras Departure Office, travel
by Eurostar to Paris. Leaving the French capital by highspeed
train, continue to Turin for the night. After a free morning to
explore, transfer by coach to Cadenabbia, a tranquil village on the
western shore of Lake Como.

Day 2 : Days 3-4 - Bellagio & Villa Carlotta

Travel by boat to picturesque Bellagio today, an attractive
island known as the 'Pearl of the Lake'. There's free time here,
and old-world streets, winding away from the main square, are a
delight to wander around. Another highlight is the Basilica di San
Giacomo, the town's Romanesque church. Later, sail to Villa
Carlotta and its Botanical Gardens.

The 17-century villa once belonged to Prussian royalty but now
houses many masterpieces of Italian art, whilst the colourful
gardens, described as 'a place of heaven', feature plantings of
rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. There are also more exotic
plants, including bamboos, ferns, and ancient cedar and sequoia
trees.

Day 4 is free, so why not explore some of the
delightful lakeside towns by local ferry? You could cruise to the
southern end of the lake and visit bustling Como town.
Alternatively, just along the western shore is the village of
Lenno, home to Villa Balbianello, one of Italy's most beautiful
villas.

Day 3 : Days 5-6 - Tour Of Milan & Free Time Cadenabbia

Visit Milan by coach today and enjoy a guided tour of this
stylish city. See the magnificent Duomo, which dominates the
skyline, the Teatro alla Scala Opera house, and the impressive
glass roof of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. Named after the first
king of Italy, the Galleria is one of the world's oldest shopping
malls.

Following the tour, you are free to continue exploring; perhaps
visit the Renaissance Castello Sforzesco, designed by Leonardo da
Vinci. Once a Visconti fortress, it's now home to seven specialised
museums displaying some of Milan's fascinating history. Day
6
is free in Cadenabbia.

Day 7 - The Bernina Express

Take a spectacular journey on the Bernina Express from St Moritz
to Tirano. Opened more than a century ago, the line is celebrated
not only for its fantastic beauty, but also for the feats of
engineering undertaken to complete it, which have earned it status
as a UNESCO World Heritage site. During your journey, the train
loops and spirals, passing mighty glaciers, rushing mountain
streams and flower-filled Alpine meadows. As you cross viaducts and
climb over the Bernina Pass, the train reaches more than 7,000 feet
above sea level, giving astonishing views as it crosses the Italian
border and descends into the pretty town of Tirano.

Framed by the backdrop of snow-dusted mountains, this town is a
delight to discover. Enjoy some free time to perhaps visit the
Santuario Madonna di Tirano, a church with spectacular frescoes,
before returning to Cadenabbia by coach.

Day 8 - Cadenabbia

Day 8 is free, and Cadenabbia's compact size and delightful
surroundings reward exploration on foot. The village's long,
lakeside promenade offers superb views across the water to Bellagio
and its surrounding hills, whilst a longer but easy stroll from the
shore climbs beyond the village to the pretty Church of St Martin
where panoramic views are a feature of the church's elevated
position.

Day 6 : Days 9-10 - Mulhouse And London

Transfer to Como station this morning and join the train to
Mulhouse. After a night here, continue your journey on Day
10
, catching the train from Mulhouse to Paris. On arrival,
cross the city by coach and connect with the Eurostar service back
to London St Pancras.

Very good tours, knowledgeable and friendly Tour Managers. The hotel was very good and the locations visited were excellent. The heritage railways are interesting and lovely to travel on whether hauled by steam or diesel.

10-Aug-2022

A well-priced escorted tour of Switzerland with an excellent guide, Graham Carter. Hats off to Graham for his patience and cheerful leadership of our group of 36 with various levels of mobility and agility. A last minute change of hotel was a bit of a surprise and some of our group were disappointed with the substitution but we found it to be a nice tourist class 3 star with a good choice of buffet style meals. It needs to be remembered before you book that this is an active holiday. There are many train changes, steps and hills. Overall a good holiday but you need to be fairly agile to get the most out of the experience. Luckily we are!

18-Jul-2023

We booked the Catalan holiday in January having been told that we would get an early booking discount of £50 each with the holiday costing £1049pp. I have just been sent an email offering a flash sale with the same holiday advertised at £849! I assume we will now be offered the same price and I look forward to a refund of £400.

18-May-2023

Very bad customer services. Cancelled one of the rail trip which was replaced by a trip by coach of Carisle, lovely that Carisle is!. So far no reason for the cancellation, no apology or compensation. Wrecked the holiday!. Company can't own up to their own mistakes and will blame someone else particularly their clients. Don't touch them with a barge pole!

17-Jan-2023

Very disappointed. Booked Isle of Man last year and dates got changed. Accepted the alternative dates offered and did enjoy the holiday. Booked the Glacier Express, Switzerland, this year for a special anniversary . Holiday was cancelled (despite being told that it would be very unlikely that it would be cancelled) and alternative dates offered unsuitable. If I wanted to go at a specific time I would not use this company again. There seem to be different companies offering these holidays but they are the same operator based in York.
