Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1 - London To Leysin
Meet your Tour Manager at London St Pancras, then board the
Eurostar to Paris. Travel firstly to Geneva, before continuing to
Leysin, your home for the next six nights.
Day 2 - Leysin
Day 2 is free for you to explore this
charming village, a lesser-known gem set at the eastern end of Lake
Geneva, Leysin sits under the watchful gaze of the Vaudoises Alps.
You could take the cable car to the summit of Berneuse, a magical
experience that allows you to admire the beautiful landscapes from
above. Atop the Berneuse is the famous revolving restaurant, Le
Kuklos where you can sit down to lunch amid the panoramic mountain
views.
Day 3 - The Mont Blanc Express
Enjoy one of the highlights of your holiday as you board the
Mont Blanc Express. This wonderful journey takes you through thick
forests, over sharp gorges, and alongside noble peaks on your way
to Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, the gateway to the Alps. The views along
the way are simply stunning as you navigate the mountains. On
arrival in Chamonix, you are free to explore. This town is in many
ways a classic Alpine resort, and you can enjoy a glorious mountain
panorama that takes in the awe-inspiring Mont Blanc, the highest
mountain in the Alps.
Please note, on some late season departures the Mont Blanc
Express is occasionally changed over to the Montenvers Mountain
Railway due to engineering works.
Day 4 - Zermatt
Visit the wonderful town of Zermatt today, hidden beneath the
pyramidal peak of the Matterhorn. In many ways, Zermatt is a
classic Swiss town; nestled in a green valley, this is Switzerland
at its chocolate-box best. You may wish to visit the fascinating
Zermatt Mountain Climbing Museum or treat yourself to some classic
cuisine while you're here. The streets are car-free, so be sure to
take in Zermatt's charm on a relaxed stroll, or perhaps take a
journey on the splendid Gornergrat Mountain Railway (payable
locally), rising into the clouds before emerging at the summit of
the Gornergrat.
Day 5 - Free Time To Explore
Day 5 is free to use your included Swiss
Travel Card. Perhaps take the train down to the lake, where you
could visit the Lavaux vineyards that line the hillside, enjoying a
walk through the vines and perhaps stopping to sample the local
produce. Alternatively, you could visit Lausanne, the second
largest city on Lake Geneva, and wander through its quaint Old
Town, dominated by a beautiful cathedral.
Day 6 - Montreux
Today's excursion takes you by rail to the charming town of
Montreux, situated in a beautiful, sheltered bay on the shores of
Lake Geneva. It enjoys an incredibly picturesque setting,
surrounded by vineyard-covered hillsides, the striking blue waters
of the lake, and the snowcapped peaks of the distant Alps. The
town also enjoys an unusually mild climate and is known for its
Mediterranean feel, including the palm and cypress trees that line
the town's promenades. With free time, you might like to visit
Château de Chillon, an impressive fortress just a short distance
from the town. Sat beneath the ancient Dents du Midi Mountains,
Château de Chillon dates back to medieval times and resembles a
fairytale castle.
Day 7 - Leysin To London
On Day 7, you leave Leysin
and Switzerland behind, travelling by rail to Paris, via Geneva,
where you board the Eurostar service back to London St
Pancras.
