Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1 : Days 1-2 - London, Chambéry & Rome
Meet at our Departure Office at London St Pancras and travel by
Eurostar to Paris. Here, change trains and continue by high-speed
TGV to Chambéry for the night. Continue by rail on Day
2, catching the service firstly to Milan, then Rome. On
arrival, check in to your hotel for three nights.
Day 2 : Days 3-4 - Discover Rome
Enjoy a day's sightseeing in the Eternal City, starting with a
guided tour that takes you to some of the many fantastic sights and
monuments of the Italian capital. See the iconic Roman Forum, take
in the majesty of the Colosseum, visit the remarkable Pantheon, and
make a wish at the Trevi Fountain. Your afternoon and Day
4 are free to continue exploring.
Perhaps walk up the Spanish Steps and visit the John Keats
Museum, marvel at art by the likes of Da Vinci, Caravaggio, Titian,
Raphael and Michelangelo, or visit Vatican City - home to St
Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel.
Day 5 - Sorrento
Head to the station this morning and board the high-speed
service to Naples. From here, a private coach drives you to the
seaside town of Sorrento, which sits within its own 'mini bay' in
the vast Bay of Naples. Check into your hotel for the next five
nights, the 4* Majestic Palace Hotel.
Day 4 : Days 6-7 - The Amalfi Coast
Today's excursion takes you by boat along the stunning Amalfi
Coast - one of the world's most picturesque coastlines, lined with
exquisite hillside villages, twisting umbrella pines and scented
lemon trees. Your port of call is the small town of Amalfi, where
you have free time to look around, one of the many desirable
destinations along this stretch of rugged shoreline. Visit the
Sant'Andrea Cathedral, with its Byzantine façade, or make your way
to the medieval shipyard.
Day 7 is free for you to discover the joys of
Sorrento. You may want to amble down to one of the rocky beaches,
where sun loungers are available to hire for a small fee.
Alternatively, explore the historic centre, with its appealing
streets lined with gelato and traditional Limoncello shops. One
good way to see the highlights of this relaxed, Italian town is to
board the tourist train in Piazza Tasso for a short tour of the
sights and some fantastic sea views.
Day 5 : Days 8-9 - Pompeii And Sorrento
This morning, take the local Circumvesuviana train to the
ancient ruins of Pompeii. Regarded as the best-preserved Roman city
in the world, Pompeii was one of many prosperous cities situated in
the red zone surrounding Mount Vesuvius before being buried by
volcanic ash. In AD 79, an enormous eruption took place, killing
inhabitants in pyroclastic hot surges. This ash did, however,
preserve the site, freezing it in time so that visitors can see
what restaurants, shops, homes, and public spaces would have been
like nearly 2000 years ago.
Explore at your own pace on Day 9. You could
explore a little further afield. Perhaps catch a ferry or hydrofoil
from the marina to the Island of Capri, famed for its stunning
views, rocky seashores, and scenic charm.
Day 6 : Days 10-11 - Turin And London
Travel by train to Turin for an overnight stay. Go back to the
station after breakfast on Day 11 and continue
your journey to Paris, changing trains for the Eurostar to London
St Pancras.
Day 7 : Please Note
Please note that while every departure of this tour features the
same excursions, they may not necessarily be in the order listed
above.
