For centuries pilgrims have followed the ancient Camino de Santiago, from the scenic French Pyrenees to the iconic cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, and the route still bustles with devotees from all over the world. This tour visits the ancient towns, cities and villages along the Way, each with their own culture, dialect, heritage and gastronomy, proving that it’s not just the destination but the journey too that’s special.
Itinerary
Fly to Bilbao and travel to the locally rated 4-star Hotel Tres Reyes in Pamplona for a three-night stay. D
Day 2 St Jean Pied-de-Port
Enjoy an excursion through the famous Ronceveaux Pass to picturesque St Jean Pied-de-Port in the French Pyrenees, starting point for many pilgrimages. B, D
Day 3 Sangüesa and Leyre Monastery
A morning visit takes you to Sangüesa and Leyre Monastery. Then see the sights of Pamplona's historic centre on a walking tour that includes the cathedral. B
Day 4 Pamplona to Logroño
Visit characterful pilgrimage villages en route to pretty Logrono in the heart of La Rioja. Stay for two nights at the locally rated 3-star Hotel Villa de Laguardia. B, D
Day 5 Logroño
Enjoy an included tour of scenic Logroño on the banks of the Ebro. Later, perhaps visit the World Heritage monasteries of San Millán, point of origin of the first literature in the Spanish language. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the monastic community founded by St Millán in the mid-6th century became a place of pilgrimage. A Romanesque church built in St Milláns honour stands at the site of Suso. The Spanish Castilian language was also first penned here. In the early 16th century the community was housed in the new monastery of Yuso, below the older complex, and is still a thriving community as you will see on today's visit. B, D
Day 6 Logroño to Fuenmayor to Burgos
En route to Burgos, enjoy a tour of a Rioja winery and visit Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Stay two nights at the locally rated 4-star Hotel Abba Burgos. B, D
Day 7 Burgos
Tour the awe-inspiring Gothic Cathedral where 'El Cid' is buried. B, D
Day 8 Burgos to León
Travel to León stopping at Carrion de Los Condes en route. An orientation tour introduces you to fabulous León. Stay two nights at locally rated 4-star Hotel Tryp Leon. B,D
Day 9 León
Take in the sights of this beautiful city set beneath the Cantabrian mountains at your leisure. B
Day 10 León to Santiago de Compostela
Journey into Celtic Galicia, pausing at Astorga and Ponferrada, before reaching the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela. Stay three nights at the locally-rated 4-star Hotel Puerta del Camino, two-and-half kilometres away from the old town. B, D
Day 11 Santiago de Compostela
This afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of the famed cathedral, where pilgrims have paid homage to St James since the Middle Ages. B, D
Day 12 Santiago de Compostela
Enjoy a day at leisure in this city of sandstone which enchants visitors with its ancient buildings, museums and parks. Alternatively, military history enthusiasts may decide to join an optional excursion to La Coruña this morning.
Enjoy a farewell dinner at your hotel this evening.
Day 13 Santiago de Compostela to Porto to UK
Travel to Porto airport for your return flight to the UK. B
