Tour Overview
South America boasts diverse scenery, vibrant cities and ancient archaeology, some of which you’ll see for yourself on this two-country tour. Spend your first three nights in Argentina where you’ll have the chance to discover the attractions of Buenos Aires. Then after a short flight you’ll have the chance to walk alongside the cascading waterfalls of Iguazu and take the Ecological Jungle Train to the Fall’s Observation point in Argentina’s Iguazu National Park.
Your tour concludes with three nights in one of Brazil’s most colourful cities, Rio de Janeiro, where you can admire panoramic views of the city from Corcovado Mountain, stand at the feet of the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer and stroll along the Olympic Boulevard with its garish murals.
Itinerary
Day 1 UK-Buenos Aires, Argentina
After taking your included VIP door-to-door travel service, fly overnight to Buenos Aires.
Day 2 Buenos Aires
Accommodation Name: Novotel Buenos Aires
Arrive in the morning and transfer to the 4-star Novotel Buenos Aires (4Q) for the next three nights.
The city's fascinating cultural heritage, reflecting European and Latin American influences, is apparent in its tango houses, jazz bars, galleries and museums.
Day 3 Buenos Aires
Accommodation Name: Novotel Buenos Aires
Enjoy an included sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires this morning. See the Plaza de Mayo, the political heart of the city, with the Presidential Palace and the 18th-century cathedral. You also see the Plaza del Congreso, the largest in the city, and the Plaza de la República, with its 67-metre obelisk erected to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city.
Your sightseeing tour continues with a drive around the Italian quarter of La Boca, and the elegant residential districts of La Recoleta and Palermo, before returning to your hotel.
Spend this afternoon at leisure, relaxing at your hotel or exploring the city on your own. Look forward to dinner and a performance of the sultry Tango at a local restaurant. B, D
Day 4 Buenos Aires
Accommodation Name: Novotel Buenos Aires
Spend the day as you choose, perhaps revisit the affluent Recoleta area with its fascinating cemetery where national icons such as Eva Perón rest in extravagant tombs. You can also look forward to an include drinks reception at your hotel this evening where you can get to know your fellow travellers. B
Day 5 Buenos Aires-Foz do Iguaçu
Accommodation Name: Recanto Cataratas Hotel
Fly to Foz do Iguaçu (two hours) and then transfer to the 4-star Recanto Cataratas Hotel (4Q) for a two-night stay.
The city of Foz do Iguaçu sits near the beautiful Iguazu Falls which span both the borders of Brazil and Argentina, making it one of the world’s widest waterfalls. Dinner is included at your hotel this evening. B, D
Day 6 Foz do Iguaçu
Accommodation Name: Recanto Cataratas Hotel
Today you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the Brazilian side of the Falls.
From this side, you’ll get a much better idea of the full size and magnificence of the Falls, and conditions for photography are especially good in the morning – so have your camera at the ready! You can walk for one-and-a-half kilometres along a paved walk towards the rim of the Falls, enjoying a superb view across to the far side. This takes you to the section known as the Floriano Falls. A viewing platform can take you right to the edge of one of the lower waterfalls.
Next you’ll head to Argentina’s Iguazú National Park where you’ll be able to see more of the falls and take the Ecological Jungle Train towards the Fall’s Observation point known as ‘The Devil’s Throat,’ which can be reached via a trek through the jungle. B
Day 7 Foz do Iguacu-Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Accommodation Name: Hilton Copacobana Hotel
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Rio de Janeiro (two hours), where you spend the next three nights at the 5-star Hilton Copacabana Hotel (4Q). With its famous carnival and wonderful museums, stunning botanical gardens, sprawling favelas and iconic Christ the Redeemer, the vibrant city of Rio offers much to discover. B
Day 8 Rio’s Olympic Boulevard
Accommodation Name: Hilton Copacobana Hotel
Prior to hosting the 2016 Olympic games, Rio underwent considerable revitalisation which you’ll see for yourself as you visit the new Port Zone for a stroll along the Olympic Boulevard with its impressive wall of murals representing each country that took part. You’ll also visit the Museum of Art of Rio De Janeiro and the Museum of Tomorrow – a science and experimental museum, regarded as one of the world’s most extraordinary buildings. B
Day 9 Corcovado Mountain
Accommodation Name: Hilton Copacobana Hotel
This morning you’ll enjoy spectacular views as you ascend the Corcovado Mountain via a cogwheel train. At the summit you can stand beside Rio De Janeiro’s iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer which overlooks the bay. Following your descent you’ll be taken to view some of the city’s most beautiful beaches. This afternoon you may be tempted to join an optional half-day excursion to Sugar Loaf Mountain, another of Rio de Janeiro’s great symbols.
Look forward to an included dinner at a BBQ restaurant this evening, for a unique Brazilian dining experience. B, D
Day 10 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil-UK
Transfer to the airport for your overnight flight to the UK. B
