Location: Yorkshire Dales, Grassington, Hawes, Brymor Dairy
Accommodation Name: Holiday Inn Darlington Scotch Corner
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
We begin our day by welcoming our Yorkshire Dales Blue Badge Guide onboard before starting our journey with stunning scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. Immerse yourself in the landscapes as our guide brings to life the history and heritage of the area, seeing the locations of the hugely popular ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ TV series.
Our first stop of the day is the market town of Grassington, which features in the series as the fictional Darrowby. Why not have pint in The Drovers Arms (Devonshire Arms) or have a coffee and cake at The Stripey Badger Bookshop, which was transformed into a private house for filming? Wander around the high street and see many of the local shops that are used in the show and the cobbled market square that feature in many episodes.
We then travel into the heart of the Dales, one of England’s highest and most remote towns, Hawes. Famous for Wensleydale cheese, the town is the setting for the Darrowby Cattle Market. Our final stop of the day is Brymor Dairy – the home of real Yorkshire ice cream! Using local milk and cream from cows grazing the Dales to create their award-winning ice cream, enjoy the choice of over 25 flavours!
Day 3 Thirsk and The World of James Herriot Museum
Location: Thirsk, The World of James Herriot Museum
Meals Included: Breakfast
This morning, we spend some free time in market town of Thirsk, which is where James Herriot, the world’s most famous vet, lived, worked and wrote his incredibly successful series of books based on his experiences as a young North Yorkshire vet. Walk through his fully restored 1940s home and surgery, and travel back in time to what life was like when James was practicing – you can even view the car he drove! We then begin our journey home.
