Then you're off to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum for a guided tour and lunch. The museum and grounds are spectacular, with sweeping views of the Simi Valley, the surrounding mountains, and the Pacific Ocean. Day 4: Santa Barbara's Old Mission & A Choice Of Activities

Location: Santa Barbara, California, USA

Embark on a guided tour of 18th-century Old Mission Santa Barbara, home to an active Franciscan parish for more than 200 years. On a city tour, get a feel for the quiet beach community of Santa Barbara, long a celebrity hideaway, and visit the 1929 Courthouse, surrounded by lush gardens. Inside you'll find murals depicting scenes of the city's past, painted by a self-taught artist whose illustrations appeared in the novels of Joseph Conrad and Jack London. This afternoon, a choice is yours in Santa Barbara. One is a visit to the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, California's oldest botanical garden. Here, a guided tour reveals the diversity of the state's native flora and vegetation. Your other choice is a city tour through Santa Barbara. This evening you'll have free time to enjoy your resort or explore downtown Santa Barbara as you please.

Discover picturesque Solvang, a town with a distinctive Danish heritage (and a location featured in the wine-lovers' film, Sideways), and enjoy a Tauck Exclusive lunch, tour, and tasting at Presqu'ile, a small family-owned winery. Continue on to Pismo Beach, known for its long white beaches and ocean views. The evening is spent at The Cliffs Resort, overlooking the Pacific.

Drive along stunning Pacific Coast Highway 1 to San Simeon and Hearst Castle, a national and California Historical Landmark designed by revered California architect Julia Morgan. A guided walking tour of this elaborate estate, created for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, takes you back to the opulent era of the early 20th century; the castle was the inspiration for Xanadu, the over-the-top, never-finished mansion of publisher Charles Foster Kane in Orson Welles' film classic, Citizen Kane. After your guided tour, it's nature's opulence that will impress you as you continue along the Pacific Coast, hundreds of feet above crashing surf and remote, rocky beaches, to the Big Sur Coast. Your destination today is the coastal city of Monterey, where you'll dine at your hotel on Monterey Bay.

Then check in to The Westin St. Francis and enjoy time to rest, relax, or explore the area surrounding Union Square. Your hotel is in a vibrant retail and cultural area in the heart of the city – and at your doorstep you'll discover a favorite city square where you might just see musicians, artists, or speakers doing what they do best. Your Tauck Director can recommend restaurants in this city known for its range of cuisines inspired by fresh ingredients.

CAL Gold Coast

05-Sep-2017

Twelve days of beautiful hotels, wonderful food, good company with interesting sites. Each was great. Yosemite was spectacular especially to Glacier Point . The views and vistas were incredible.

Beautiful Coastal CA

28-Sep-2015

Loved starting in San Diego. Then going all the way up the coast, into the sierra's to Yousemete then ending in San Fran. The restaurants were all up to Tauck standards and more. The hotels all up and more to Tauck standards except the Inn at Moro Bay. Below average in rooms and service. Tour Dir. Excellent. Meeting new people always + The CA Coastal scenery. Especially The Big Sur area. Wow!! The 4 Seasons Hotel Biltmore- what a pleasure. And of course the food, a dining experience.

California's Gold Coast

31-May-2016

We travelled from the UK to the US for our son's wedding and added the TAUCK trip as an adventure to follow the wedding. We are glad we added the trip and delighted that we chose TAUCK. TAUCK, think of everything from pick up at San Diego to departure at San Francisco. We stayed in First class hotels and visited superb locations. We were treated to seeing the Pandas at San Diego Zoo and to envying those playing golf at Pebble Beach then touring Yosemite. The trip exceeded expectations. It would only have been bettered had I been allowed to play golf at Pebble Beach. But one of the most memorable moments was eating breakfast at Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara

Very good but adjustments required..

26-May-2015

Very good overview of the coast. Super Tour director and coach driver. Except for the beautiful Getty Museum, nothing interesting in LA, I would skip the city tour. Yosemite: give 1 more day ; unfortunately, we did not get to the falls! Also, since it was the highlight of the trip, I would have appreciate a visit within smaller groups. Santa Barbara, 17 miles drive. Getty museum in LA ( not enough time, need 2-3 hrs more). Hearst Castle. Hotels: Magnificient spanish style 4 Seasons Biltmore and The Langham. Yosemite ( although we did not get the best hotel...we were expecting the Ahwahnee) Monterey and beautiful aquarium and hotel Intercontinental Clement.

California Gold Coast Trip 04302015

18-May-2015

Overall, the trip was excellent and I would recommend it highly. We saw some beautiful sights along the Big Sur and enjoyed our visits to the Getty Museum and Hearst Castle. CA is a beautiful state and our Tour Director and driver showed us just how beautiful. Our Tour Director provided a bit of history with all the beautiful scenery. I would have to say it was the drive along CA Hwy 1 in the Big Sur area. We stopped at Ragged Point which had beautiful views, a beautiful garden, etc. The color of the water, the crashing waves against the rocks, the flowers blooming made for an unforgettable experience.

Westbound Panama Canal Jan. 27

13-Feb-2017

This was my first trip with Tauck. I have previously travelled with National Geographic, VBT, and Vantage. Our tour leader, the ship, and the canal also great. Most of the "rainforest" visits were disappointing except La Paz. The Manuel Antonio visit walking along a gravel road with power lines overhead and dozens of tourists in sight was bad. Canal transit La Paz Doka coffee plantation Sarchi Ox cart factory

Panama Canal and Costa Rica

14-Feb-2017

This is our 11th trip with Tauck and certainly will not be the last. However, this trip was not up to Tauck's usual standards. The hotel in Panama, the Hilton, was disappointing. There was no snorkeling at Isla Parida, as advertised. The morning walk in Punta Marenco was a boring lecture on the local environment with no fauna sightings. There were 3 memorable events. The Canal crossing, the canal boat cruise in the Gamboa Rainforest, and the rapids river float. The Windstar Star Breeze experience was wonderful, largely due to the extraordinary shipboard staff and their efforts to make our stay a memorable experience.

Panama Canal is great

15-Jan-2018

We took the West Bound Panama Canal trip. We liked the trip, but there were too many filler days and most of us would have preferred a trip of a shorter duration. Going through the canal itself and all the information about the canal and how it was built.

California's Gold Coast

06-Jun-2017

If you are an experienced traveler, this is NOT the trip for you. Too much bus time; too much time spent wandering aimlessly in rundown towns; too little time spent at important sites. This was my third Tauck trip, and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. The only reason I gave it two stars was because the hotels were very nice. The day spent at Yosemite.
