Itinerary

Expand All
Day 1: Arrive Boston
Location: Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Accommodation Name: The Lenox Hotel
Meals Included: Dinner

Tour begins: 5:00 PM, The Lenox Hotel. A transfer is included from Logan International Airport to The Lenox Hotel, perfectly situated in the heart of Boston's picturesque Back Bay neighborhood. A welcome reception at your hotel this evening, followed by a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, gets your New England vacation off to a wonderful start!

Day 2: Plimoth Patuxet And Martha's Vineyard
Location: Falmouth, Massachusetts, USA
Accommodation Name: Harbor View Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

From Boston, travel to Plymouth to step back in time at Plimoth Patuxet, a re-created 17th-century village with costumed living historians who bring the folkways of the Plimoth Colony, one of the earliest English settlements in North America, to life; see Plymouth Rock, marking the Pilgrims' 1620 landing site. After some free time in Falmouth, a ferry ride from the mainland takes you to the island of Martha's Vineyard. Whether you call it chic, fashionable, posh, quaint, charming, or trendy, it is one of the hottest New England vacation destinations of the 21st century – and where you'll spend the next two nights in the former whaling center of Edgartown.

Day 3: Exploring Martha's Vineyard
Location: Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA
Accommodation Name: Harbor View Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast

You'll bridge the centuries by exploring the Vineyard today. Start your sightseeing by admiring the historic stately homes in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Take in the salt marshes, long beaches, and picturesque yacht harbors in the town of West Tisbury before finishing in Edgartown with a visit to the Carnegie Museum. Built in 1904, the Carnegie Museum was given to the town as a gift for its citizens by Andrew Carnegie and served as the town library from 1904 to 2016 before being reopened to the public in 2018. Inside, learn about the rich history and development of the island before embarking on a walking tour of the various historic & architectural sites near and on Edgartown Harbor (at a pace of your choice) followed by an exclusive private reception at Norton Boathouse. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish.

Day 4: Nantucket's Whaling Days & On To Cape Cod
Location: Nantucket, Massachusetts, USA
Accommodation Name: Red Jacket Beach Resort
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Weather permitting, today we will visit Nantucket Island, which three centuries ago was the whaling capital of the world. A short 15-minute flight takes you to the home of unspoiled beaches, lone lighthouses, sea captains’ houses and art galleries. While here, enjoy a guided sightseeing journey around the island, as well as a visit to the Nantucket Whaling Museum at your leisure. Your destination tonight is at your Yarmouth resort, where you will feast on a New England lobster and clam dinner.

Day 5: The Cape, Provincetown & Whale Watching
Location: Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA
Accommodation Name: Red Jacket Beach Resort
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Journey up along the outer Atlantic side of the Cape to visit Cape Cod National Seashore, with its massive sand dunes towering above crested seas. Arrive in Provincetown on the tip of the Cape; once a key whaling town, it has become world-renowned over the last century as an arts colony and a major summer resort. "P-Town" is set near the summering grounds for a number of whale species; weather permitting, take a guided whale-watching cruise to see these amazing aquatic mammals roll, flip their tails, and blow through their blowholes – a true highlight of your New England vacation. Have dinner back at your resort in Chatham this evening.

Day 6: On To Legendary Newport
Location: Newport, Rhode Island, USA
Accommodation Name: Newport Marriott
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Leave the Cape this morning and head along the coast to historic Newport, Rhode Island, with a stop en route for lunch in – believe it or not – the town of Sandwich! Newport is renowned as a long-time haven for yachting enthusiasts, former home of the America's Cup, and one of the great playgrounds of the rich in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Drive past some of the ostentatious mansions that served as summer "cottages" for affluent socialites during the Gilded Age, and explore the celebrated Ten-Mile Drive; your home for the next two nights of your New England vacation is set right on Newport Harbor.

Day 7: The Breakers, A Bay Cruise & More In Newport
Location: Newport, Rhode Island, USA
Accommodation Name: Newport Marriott
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Your Tauck Director begins the day with a guided stroll along Newport's Cliff Walk, set between the sea and the mansions. See the opulence of the 19th century's Gilded Age firsthand on a visit to "The Breakers," a 70-room Italian Renaissance mansion inspired by the 16th-century palaces of Genoa and Turin. This palatial "summer cottage" built by Cornelius Vanderbilt is now a National Historic Landmark. A delightful cruise through Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay precedes an afternoon spent exploring more of Newport on your own. Join us tonight at Forty 1° North Marina Resort, the city's newest luxury waterfront venue, to cap your New England vacation at our exclusive farewell cocktail reception and dinner overlooking Newport Harbor.

Day 8: Journey Home From Boston
Location: Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Meals Included: Breakfast

Drive back to Boston after a leisurely breakfast this morning. Tour ends: Boston’s Logan International Airport, 12:30 PM, or The Lenox Hotel at 1:30 PM, traffic permitting. Airport transfers are included; allow two hours for flight check-in.

Reviews from Travellers on this Tour

Cape Cod joy!

09-Jul-2017

The trip was conducted flawlessly by our tour director. Using a bus, ferries, both high speed and regular, small planes and boats for whale watching and a harbor tour took tremendous coordination. Nantucket, Chatham and Newport were great stops. Plimoth was a great learning experience. Would love to return with grandchildren. Whale watching were we saw 10 whales! Chatham was charming and our stay there was highlighted by a scrumptious lobster dinner. Prior to dinner we were surprised by the "Chatham Acapella Boys Club", who enchanted the group with their talent. You need to actually see our Tauck Director's lobster apron to believe it!

Beautiful Cape Cod

16-Oct-2017

We had a great tour with Tauck. Met some wonderful people from all over the world. Our tour guide was fantastic, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. One traveler in our group was taking his 32nd Tauck tour. Speaks volumes for the company. Whale watching off Provincetown. One whale breached about 25 times for us. Great show. And of course the lobster feast Tauck provided in Edgartown.

Fantastic Small Group Tour

17-Oct-2017

We had a great small group tour with Tauck. This was our first tour with Tauck and we really didn’t know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. The tour director was superb - knowledgable, fun and attentive. The driver was outstanding. The other guests were nice and we mixed well. The whale watching was interesting but a little slow, so the most memorable moment for us was visiting the John Adams home in Quincy, Mass. and getting a glimpse into the lives of people in the early 1800’s.

Cape Cod, The Islands and Newport

08-Jul-2016

This was a great trip. We traveled by land, sea, and air. Had never been to that part of the country and was very impressed with the quaint villages, pretty homes and flowers. I guess whale watching. We saw a lot of them and got a lot of pictures.

Gloria + Pete were great

17-Sep-2017

Excellent tour. Great overview of all parts of Cape Cod. We liked the smaller group. Tour restaurants were especially good. Best tour guide and driver we have had. Our Tauck Director was very informative, funny and professional. Our motor coach driver was pleasant and funny, too. We appreciated the extra touches provided to help us celebrate our honeymoon.

Rubbing Elbows Along the New England Coast

24-Sep-2015

Trip: Days 2 & 3 not great, but trip became excellent starting with the flight to Nantucket. Newport & Adams Home were super. Four times on the water, neat. Food: Menu options excellent. Fine food throughout. Rooms: Weakest point. No views. Faced parking lot & pool 3 times. Worst: Harbor View. Room & hallways literally stunk. Our 10th Tauck. Nantucket & Newport tours.

a good trip, saw everything that was advertised, bus rotation was good, motels good or as good as could be - historical, food real good, short time in buses, bathroom stops real good. Host good-knowledgable-bus driver real good. the handling of baggage was outstanding. Was kept well informed. Airplane from Vineyard to Nantucket real good. Just about everything on the islands particularly the Vineyard.

Cape Cod, The Islands and Newport

22-Sep-2017

Living near Asheville NC and the Biltmore Estate, I was really interested in seeing the homes that some of the other Vanderbilts had built in Newport. The Breakers was included as part of the tour but there was plenty of time to see Marble House on our own which we did. Martha's Vineyard was also very interesting. Thank God Obama wasn't there! The two homes my sister and I saw in Newport. We met such lovely people on our tour but then we always do. It was my sister's first Tauck tour but I don't think it will be her last

Cape Cod, The Islands and Newport

19-Sep-2018

We were somewhat disappointed with aspects of the tour. Initially it took me 2 calls to reach the person assigned to pick us up at the airport making us even later to dinner. The Harbor View in Edgartown was inhabitable. We changed rooms due to an ant invasion, also having ants in the next room and a toilet that was not working this place may have Not a memorable moment (from above) Missed 2 excursions due to the weather and the tour included way too much time for shopping. Very disappointed! Our Tauck Director and driver were excellent. The visit to the Breakers home in Newport was excellent. We would recommend Tauck to friends but definitely not this tour.

Mostly superior

02-Sep-2016

Amazing trip. Outstanding tour director and wonderful driver. Food was highest quality. The lodging facilities were wonderful with exception of Harbor View Hotel on MV. Harbor View food was extremely good with exceptional service but our room near the pool was very sub-par and definitely not Tauck quality and hurt star rating Whale watching trip, Views from small plane, harbor tour in Newport, and beautiful lighthouses. Beautiful trip except experience with Harbor View Hotel.
