Day 1: Arrive Amsterdam

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Accommodation Name: ms Esprit

Meals Included: Dinner

Tour begins: 4:00 PM, Amsterdam. Upon arrival, a transfer is included from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport or Centraal Train Station directly to your Tauck riverboat. After settling into your cabin, attend a discovery briefing, then enjoy a welcome reception followed by dinner this evening aboard the riverboat.

Day 2: Amazing Amsterdam

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Accommodation Name: ms Esprit

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Awaken on your riverboat today in Amsterdam – a vibrant blend of the historic and the contemporary, from its medieval core to the bustling shops, cafés and rich cosmopolitan life of a 21st-century European metropolis. After breakfast aboard ship, begin your exploration of this nearly car-free city of flower-rimmed canals, gracious gabled mansions, and people on bikes with a boat cruise through the network of 17th-century canals at the core of the old city, that offers a refreshing perspective of the Netherlands' capital city. As you'll discover, Amsterdam boasts more canals than Venice... and, as it happens, more museums per kilometer than any other European capital. One of the most famous is the matchless Rijksmuseum – filled with myriad works by the Dutch Masters, including Rembrandt’s The Night Watch and Vermeer’s The Milkmaid – which, after lunch aboard your ship, you'll visit this afternoon with a local guide. Spend the rest of the afternoon as you please, then join us onboard this evening for a shanty choir performance, some Dutch treats and the chef’s Signature Dinner, as the riverboat cruises to Haarlem. You’ll have an opportunity to walk ashore in Haarlem with your Tauck Director tonight.

Day 3: Magical Keukenhof Gardens & The Hague

Location: Bruges, Belgium

Accommodation Name: ms Esprit

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Disembark the riverboat for an excursion to Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse, the home of famous show gardens and millions of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths, in various stages of bloom and particularly beautiful at this time of the year. A rolling carpet of color, Keukenhof is one of Europe’s most iconic – and fragrant – places to witness springtime in all its glory. After lunch ashore, return to the riverboat for an afternoon of cruising. This evening, meet your local guides in Rotterdam and travel to The Hague (the royal city of Den Haag to the Dutch), for a sparkling Tauck Exclusive evening featuring dinner, live music and a tour showcasing Dutch Golden Age paintings at the Mauritshuis, a renowned art museum housed in a historic 17th-century building.

Day 4: Kinderdijk's Windmills & Dordrecht

Location: Willemstad, Netherlands

Accommodation Name: ms Esprit

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Arrive this morning in the Dutch village of Kinderdijk, where 19 original 18th-century windmills – preserved today as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – create an iconic polderscape that’s better than any picture-postcard, which you’ll enjoy on a boat cruise. There's no other place in the world besides Kinderdijk where can you see so many historic windmills together in an authentic setting. During your visit, discover how a windmill works both inside and out, and explore the quintessentially Dutch history of windmills. Alternatively, you can choose a bicycling excursion amidst the Kinderdijk windmills. Cruise on to nearby Dordrecht, a historic island city bordering no less than five rivers in the South Holland province of The Netherlands. Reflecting the definition of the Dutch word for harbor – "haven" – the city's charming harbor district preserves many historic warehouses, merchants’ mansions and quays, and its role as a major port city from the 15th to 18th centuries. A walking tour reveals Dordrecht’s notable architecture and monuments in its medieval inner city, as well as the surrounding ring of 19th-century buildings. Return to the ship for dinner and evening activities as you sail on to Belgium tonight.

Day 5: Flemish Treasures In Ghent & Bruges

Location: Ghent, Belgium

Accommodation Name: ms Esprit

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning, your riverboat arrives in the historic port city of Ghent in Flanders, arguably Belgium’s most beautiful city. Take a walking tour of Ghent’s Old Town; the pedestrian-friendly cobblestoned town center feels like an outdoor museum of early Flemish architecture. Think about climbing to the top of the 14th-century belfry, crowned with a dragon, for the view – Ghent laid out before you is a visual feast of castles, churches, and historic merchants’ houses. Be sure to try the local speciality, Ghent noses, a traditional raspberry candy sold at stands on the street – or a warm waffle with sugar or honey. Continue on to Bruges, known to many as “the Venice of the North,” for its canals and tiny medieval streets. On your walking tour along Bruges’ cobblestoned lanes, you’ll feel like you’ve walked into a painting by Jan Van Eyck, who captured life in the city during its heyday in the 15th century. The hike up the stairs of the medieval belltower is well worth the effort; you’ll be rewarded with wonderful panoramic views. Enjoy dinner onboard tonight as you sail on to Antwerp.

Day 6: Antwerp & The Age Of Exploration

Location: Antwerp, Belgium

Accommodation Name: ms Esprit

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Your riverboat arrives this morning in the major port city of Antwerp for a day in the capital of the Belgian province of Flanders. Take an orientation tour of the city and a guided walk through the city's historic center. As you stroll and hear stories and insights from your local guide, take in Grote Markt, the old market square; City Hall; the Cathedral of Our Lady; and numerous restored merchants’ houses, harkening back to the days of the 16th-century Age of Exploration when Antwerp – at the time a powerful center of international commerce – was the richest city in Europe. Later, you'll have a choice between a visit to the Red Star Line Museum – whose interactive exhibits in the former warehouses of the Red Star Line shipping company tell the story of the more than two million immigrants from all over Europe, whose long journey to a new life in North America began right here in Antwerp. Or join us for a tour and tasting at a local brewery. After lunch aboard ship, you'll have some free time to explore more of Antwerp. Return to the ship and enjoy dinner and a musical performance this evening as the riverboat cruises to Brussels.

Day 7: Discover Brussels

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Accommodation Name: ms Esprit

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Morning guided sightseeing today in Brussels, Belgium’s capital and a key center of European trade and culture since the 13th century, begins with a city tour that takes in the Atomium, a 338-foot-tall structure resembling atoms, built for the 1958 World’s Fair and winds up at Grand-Place, one of Europe’s loveliest city squares, boasting a Gothic town hall surrounded by Renaissance-era guildhalls. Return to the riverboat for lunch; this afternoon, you might choose to participate in a demonstration by a local chocolatier. Then join us this evening for a farewell reception and dinner marking the end of this fabulous spring river cruise!

Day 8: Disembark & Journey Home

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Accommodation Name: ms Esprit

Meals Included: Breakfast

Tour ends: Brussels. Fly home anytime; all guests must disembark the riverboat by 9:00 AM.  A transfer is included from the riverboat to Brussels Airport; allow 3 hours for flight check-in.

Reviews from Travellers on this Tour

Tulips in April

28-Dec-2015

A vacation of a lifetime! The Tauck tour director was wonderful. She was extremely knowledgeable and always available to answer all questions. The canal boat was beautiful. The tour guides were locals with a passion for their country and spoke excellent English. They think of everything to enhance our day. We could have left our wallets at home. The personalized tour of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

Holland and Belgium Spring riverboat cruise

01-May-2017

This was a five star experience. The food, service and accommodations on board could not be surpassed. But what was most impressive was the level of personal service by the on board tour directors and the dining and bar staff. A special thank you to Christina and Carrie for their care and concern, and organizing ability. Visiting the tulip gardens and the gigantic flower distribution and sales warehouse. Amazing!

gorgeous flowers - perfect "bucket list" trip!

11-May-2015

this was our 9th tauck trip but first riverboat trip. the ship was beautiful and our (cat 7) cabin was fantastic! plenty of room for those of us who pack the kitchen sink! we loved sitting on our sofa with the sliding doors open, watching holland & belgium float past. the staff, food, guides and excursions were the best! seeing the keukenhof gardens in full bloom was gorgeous! we took so many pictures! also loved visiting bruxelles, with its quaint streets, chocolate & waffles.

Holland and Belgium

22-Apr-2017

Simply wonderful! Steller Tour Directors and local guides. Thank you so much for your help when my luggage was delayed. Super crew and Captain, thank you all as well. Great companions. So many, hard to say! The Keukenhof Gardens and Kinderdijk Windmills were outstanding, as was Maastricht, but every day was delightful.

Amsterdam to Brussels, April 2015

01-May-2015

We decided to do a spring cruise in order to see the flowers. This year, we were a little early or there was a late winter, so the flowers were going to be a little later. The cruise covered all aspects of the Netherlands and Belgium, history, art and industry. All in all, a very good experience. It was a tie between Keukenhof and the presentation the Netherlands American Cemetery. While the outside tulips were late in blooming at Keukenhof, the blooms in the Willem-Alexander pavilion made up for any shortage. The Superintendent's presentation brought an understanding of the cemetery and a connection to those who reside there.

Lovely trip

20-Apr-2015

This was my first river trip, and I'm so glad it was with Tauck. Everything was done so well; the staff and my fellow passengers were easy to travel with, and all-inclusive really means all-inclusive! The no-single-supplement cabin was fine; while the view might be a bit better if you're not in the "basement" you can always watch from the lounge. There were so many lovely and interesting places, but my favorite was the "most beautiful bookshop in the world" in the old Dominican church in the university town of Maastricht.

Tulips and Chocolate in the Springtime

05-May-2017

The new growth of Spring is always an uplifting and life inspiring event. The ONLY way to improve this 'event' is to add Tulips and Chocolate and a "change of venue" to the Netherlands and Belgium. During the 8 weeks that Tulips are peaking is a truly superb time to visit this area. Belgium Chocolate "speaks for "itself". Lunch under infrared heaters and covered patio at the Clock Tower Square in Bruges was my most memorable moment, the mussels in a wine/curry/garlic "brew" were delicious!

Holland & Belgium in Spring

15-Apr-2016

An excellent trip. We were a little nervous at first because of recent events but Tauck did an excellent job of making us feel safe. Although the destinations were changed slightly they were well planned with experienced guides and comfortably paced. The tour staff was excellent. We will definitely travel with Tauck again Beautiful indoor gardens at Keukenhof

Holland and Belgium river cruise

21-Apr-2015

The trip was good. We visited some interesting places. Hotels were good and locations was excellent. Ship was nice and comfortable. However the food for me was not proper as I am vegetarian and Tauck does not provide good vegetarian meals. Except breakfast is Ok. Most of the nights I was starving because of no Protein in my meals. We visited The Cemetery for US soldiers in one place and the tour director gave us a rose to lay on a grave stone. This was very special as I did not feel as visitor instead paying respect with a rose made me feel as a member of the family. Since I am from NY I kept the flower on a soldier's grave who was from New York State. Very emotional.

Not the Best

06-Jun-2016

We have enjoyed our many Tauck trips, but not this one. This was nothing special. We had an excellent lunch at Neercanne although it was silly to put on a chef's hat to pick up a dish of stew in the kitchen. The local guides were not good. The museum in Antwerp was not a good substitute for Rubin's House. You don't see working windmills in Kinderdijk. The tulips at Keukenhof. Would have liked to see more of the fields, etc. Fellow guests were a lot of fun.
