Tour Overview

The Maasai call it "Siringitu" which means "the place where the land moves on forever." Here columns of wildebeest plod along centuries-old migration routes; behind them, prides of lions prowl, completing the circle of life... elephants, buffaloes and hippos graze upon the large coarse grasses, while zebras and topi wait their turn... This is the Serengeti, one of the world's extraordinary safari experiences. In Tanzania, you can find a birdwatcher's paradise in Lake Manyara and Africa's "Garden of Eden" in Ngorongoro Crater. The circle of life continues in the savannas of Kenya, where indescribable vignettes play out before your eyes in Masai Mara National Reserve and Amboseli National Park... Observe huge herds roaming the Serengeti, the "lost world" of Ngorongoro Crater, and free-ranging elephants in Amboseli National Park.. soar in a hot air balloon over the Masai Mara at dawn – capped by a champagne breakfast in the bush... view rescued chimpanzees and protected black rhinos at Ol Pejeta Conservancy... attend a special barbecue dinner accompanied by Maasai cultural performance in the Serengeti... visit the William Holden Wildlife Foundation's animal orphanage during a two-night stay at fabled Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club... meet the weavers of a local village... travel in exclusive open-top safari vehicles, and stay in luxurious tented camps and safari lodges...

Thought by some to be Africa's original "Garden of Eden," Ngorongoro Crater is one of the largest calderas in the world and contains a variety of ecosystems and an astounding concentration of birds and animals. Your four-wheel-drive vehicle, built exclusively for Tauck, provides an excellent mobile viewing platform when encountering massive herds of zebras, wildebeests, and gazelles. This area affords an opportunity to spot the Big Five – elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo, and rhinoceros. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater today.

Day 4: Flying to Serengeti National Park

Today, you'll hop a morning flight from Lake Manyara to the Seronera airstrip in the heart of Serengeti National Park. As you do, you'll fly over Oldupai Gorge, where, over 50 years ago, archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the fossilized remains of some of the earliest known human species, an estimated 1.8 million years old. Arrive in time for lunch at your Four Seasons safari lodge in the Serengeti, built for unprecedented pampering, where you'll begin a three-night stay. An early morning visit to a Maasai village precedes a morning game drive, after which you'll return to the lodge for breakfast. Spend some down time at your lodge prior to lunch, then another game drive, and time to spend as you please at the lodge in the afternoon. Enjoy a reception and private lecture on the elephants of Amboseli and anti-poaching efforts in Kenya prior to dinner at your leisure at the lodge this evening.

Day 9: Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club & an animal orphanage

Location: Nanyuki, Kenya

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A morning flight brings you to the world-famous Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, straddling the Equator and your luxurious home for the next two nights. The former retreat of actor William Holden, the Safari Club, founded in 1959, was once the playground of such illustrious members such as Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby. Following lunch and an Equatorial demonstration, pay a private visit to the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy and Animal Orphanage; this unique facility gives orphaned, injured, neglected, abused or frightened wild animals a second chance. The orphanage provides shelter and professional care with the goal to release these creatures back into the wild where they belong. Return to Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari Club for dinner and the evening.

Day 10: Ol Pejeta Park, chimpanzees & weavers

An exciting day begins bright and early at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, boasting East Africa's largest resident black rhino population and others of the Big Five, with an early-morning game drive. It's also home to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, established to shelter orphaned and abused chimpanzees, which you'll visit after the morning's game drive. The town of Nanyuki is known for its colorful rugs, hangings and shawls; on a private visit with local weavers, see them shearing, spinning, dyeing and weaving sheep's wool by hand. Dine under the stars tonight at a private barbecue at the hotel.

Spend the afternoon relaxing, swimming, taking in the views and otherwise becoming acquainted with the Safari Club and your luxury tented camp accommodations, evoking the classic safaris of yesteryear. Embark on an evening game drive across the plains of "the Mara" in search of animals that make their homes here; perhaps you'll see lions, antelopes, elephants and zebras in their daily rituals. Return to camp for a briefing on tomorrow's hot air balloon flight, followed by dinner.

Day 12: Ballooning over the plains of the Masai Mara

Location: Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Accommodation Name: Fairmont Mara Safari Club

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today – the last full day of your safari adventure – will be one that you'll always remember, as you arise before dawn to board a hot air balloon* and float over the Masai Mara's awakening plains below as the sun rises. When you land, a special champagne breakfast will be awaiting you right there in the bush! Spectacular isn't quite strong enough a word to describe such an experience, a Tauck Exclusive on your Kenya safari! Back on the ground, look for lions, impalas, cheetahs, giraffes, and the other animals you've come to love as you return overland to the camp for lunch and an afternoon at leisure – and later on an evening game drive in the bush. Reviews from travellers on this tour

Tanzania/Kenya A Clasic Safari

26-Feb-2015

Our trip was a dream come true for us. Our tour guide, accommodation, animal experiences and driver/guides were terrific. The people of Tanzania and Kenya touched our hearts with their friendliness. We learned so much and will definitely look to Tauck for further adventures. Seeing the elephants come out of the Manyara forest and feed right beside our vehicle was our first and probably most thrilling experience, while on safari. Ngorongoro crater and Serengeti plain sightings were also fantastic. I still have to pinch myself to see if it was all real or just a part of a dream.

Kenya and Tanzania: A Classis Safari

25-Feb-2015

We started our safari leaving from Arusha with one of the best tour guides, Deborah, and experienced guide/ drivers. We were able to see and view the animals up close and personal and watch them in their natural environment. Although the roads at times were a bit bumpy, we traveled to many varied and beautiful sites. On our first drive, we came upon a small pack of elephants grazing along the roadside. It was a breathtaking moment.

Tanzania and Kenya

01-Oct-2017

Without a doubt this was one of the best vacations we've ever taken. It was well run, the tour director was fantastic, the local guides were great, and the animals and scenery were spectacular. I haven't stopped raving about it since we got home! The hot air balloon ride over the Mara was absolutely incredible.

Trip of a lifetime!

05-Oct-2018

We are worldly travelers and this is the best trip ever! The people, animals and the stake beautiful landscape are captivating & mesmerizing. Tauck arrangements are seamless. I was thrown off a bit by our tour director reserved manner but the safari guides were great. We saw thousands of wildebeests on Maasai Mara plain but regrettably not river crossing. There were so many : fun loving lion cubs playing and running to greet their mothers, the lions mating and the 2 jackals tearing a baby gazelle apart. The most hilarious moment was a male ostrich performing a 15 minutes energetic mating dance in front of a young male buffalo :) Africa will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Tanzania and Kenya

02-Jun-2017

It was great. The game drives allowed us to see animals of Africa in their natural surroundings of the African plains. We saw Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Giraffes, etc. The guides communicated with other guides to insure we found the animals and the vehicles allowed us to get close. Watching a Leopard in a tree with its kill. The leopard was only a few feet over the top of the safari vehicle laying on a very thin branch and its kill was just a few feet away in the same tree.

Luxury Adventure

03-Aug-2017

From our pickup at the JRO airport to the departure 13 days later, Tauck left no doubt they were going to provide us with a "Luxury adventure". The tour director was outstanding in every way. She was engaging, knowledgeable and organized. Every detail was taken care of so we could enjoy the adventure. After spending an exciting day driving through the Serengeti, we drove up through a gate and onto the Four Seasons property. What a contrast!! Certainly our two nights at the Four Seasons were among the trip highlights.

Reluctant but now hooked on Tanzania and Kenya

22-Sep-2017

I was reluctant. The trip was my wife's dream, and it was spectacular! The accommodations were first rate especially for being out in the bush. The interaction with the wildlife, the local tribes and people and our local guides was unique and memorable. Truck saw to everything, all meals, tips and transfers. Nothing for us to do other than enjoy. Spending an hour with a lioness who was walking, bellowing and looking for her cub and her pride. Visiting and interacting with the students and teachers at a Maasai school. Sunset with Mt. Kilimanjaro and elephants in the background. Final night campfire reminiscing with our new friends about the memories we had from the two weeks together.

Wondeful Safari

16-Jan-2017

We loved our two week safari. It surpassed our expectations in every way. The organisation was excellent. We were well informed all along. Our tour director and driver guides were all well prepared. The most memorable moments were our close encounters with so many animals. Seeing the lions, rhinos, hippos and the elusive leopard up close were moments we will always treasure.

Seeing East Africa for the first time

06-Oct-2017

I am a birder. I had never been to East Africa, so when a friend suggested this trip I decided to take the chance. The main goal of this trip is, of course, to see the "Big" mammals that everyone associates with Africa. These we saw in abundance. And we also saw birds, which is why I went. The guides were knowledgeable and able to help me. On one of our many "game drives" on the Masai Mara we were out in the middle of the Serengeti and every way you turned there were wildebeest and zebras, as far as the eye could see. No people, no houses, nothing but animals grazing.

good trip, just do it with another company, tour director. Not worth the price tag.

13-Aug-2018

Frequent solo female traveler reassured by Tauck's 'solo travel' write up. I got paired up with a solo male, 20-yrs my snr on 6 person jeep safaris. He loved manspreading, playing footsies, and leaning in to me to take pictures. Even at meals, due to designated tables, right next to me. I was told by the tour director it was just the numbers. I loved the animals, but not the tour director-up to 2hr evening lectures to find out the times for the next day. I was given the wrong itinerary book ('Journeys'). It was missing events, had missing days. I told the tour director and he said 'you'll be fine.','yours is better, it has songs' He used our sundowner as a sales pitch for his other tours.
