A short walk from your hotel brings you to the Royal BC Museum for a guided tour that sheds light on artifacts and specimens of British Columbia’s history, both natural and human. Enjoy a free afternoon to spend more time in the museum or explore Victoria as you please. The oldest city in the Pacific Northwest, Victoria has a history rooted in First Nations culture stretching back thousands of years, and British and Asian traditions since the mid-1800s. You’ll see these influences in the city’s stately architecture, heritage sites, gardens, museums, galleries, and markets. Your Tauck Director will have suggestions for places to visit, according to your interests. The evening is free.

Victoria is known as the “city of gardens,” and The Butchart Gardens are its crowning jewel, honored as a National Historic Site of Canada. The gardens offer an answer to this question: what in the world does one do with an exhausted limestone quarry? In the early 20th century, Jennie Butchart, the chemist at her husband’s cement company, turned their used-up limestone quarry into a spectacular Sunken Garden. Next, she added the Italian Garden, the Japanese Garden, and the Rose Garden. Take in the splendor of the Butchart landscapes today and have lunch – an Afternoon Tea – at the original family residence, including a sampling of local wines.
