Tourism needs to change, and the change starts here. Elephants should not be ridden or bathed by humans, and especially not done for the sake of a ‘travel photo’. U. believes strongly that we should lead by changing the way we (don’t) interact with these beautiful creatures.

Today we venture to a carefully selected and vetted Elephant sanctuary where the elephants have been saved from exploitation and hard manual labour where U. supports the efforts of the incredible people who spend countless hours and energy to protect these elephants.

There is plenty of opportunity to see the elephants bathe and play, graze and interact with each other as we are treated too a locally prepared Thai vegetarian lunch. Our guide will explain the history and importance of elephants to the Thai cultural, economic and social landscape and what the future could look like with your help once you leave Thailand.

We take the day another step further, with an interactive hands-on afternoon learning the traditional method of weaving clothing and bags at the Karen Cultural Centre.

Back in Chiang Mai this evening, we've arranged a unique Thai massage experience for you. The skilled masseuses, who are certified instructors, also happen to be former inmates.

By partnering with local charities to retrain and employ these individuals, we aim to reduce women's conviction rates in Chiang Mai and address the underlying societal issues. This is a step towards realising our dream of Travel helping to create a better community.

Your U.Trip is bound to be a mix which makes classifying something as 3 star for example, near impossible. If its a hotel, we aim for no less than 3 star. if it's a hostel, then we've chosen the coolest ones, and otherwise you can look forward to guess houses, lodges, beach side bungalows and much more!

  • Is there any free time to explore places during the tour?

Yes there is. You have choose a group trip which gives you safety and structure with a whole lot of inclusions, but we appreciate that you need time to yourself too! Depending on which U.Trip you are taking, the free time will be outlined in the itinerary.

  • Are the local guides on the tour English speaking?

Yes. All out guides are English speaking. We embrace a multi-national group dynamic and believe that making friends with fellow travellers of differing nationalities is imperative to learning and expanding one's travel experiences!

  • What is the maximum group size?

Most of our groups won't exceed 20 persons. On occasions that may change. We will inform you if that happens so you understand why - it will always be for a very good reason and is an exception to the rule!

  • ATM's?

We pass by a number of ATM's over the course of the trip - but not every day! So make sure you pull out enough local money to see you through a few days at a time!

  • Will passengers from another country be participating in the tour?

Absolutely, unapologetically YES! Travel should challenge you to step out of your comfort zones, meet new people, share a part of yourself and enable you to be open to share parts of other cultures. Stop being an arm chair tourist and start interacting with other global citizens!

  • How much Money do I need?

AUD 40 a day should see you right, but be prepared for both less and more! Less, if you're not a big eater or drinker, more if you like to party the night away and are happy buying drinks for your new mates! Keep a little aside too for those weird and wonderful unexpected moments or souvenirs that you may want to purchase

  • Are vaccinations required for this tour?

It's always recommended that you check the status of recommended vaccinations and possible medications (such as malaria pills) from the consulate of the country you are travelling too. Please check early - the responsibility is yours and forms part of your travel challenges!

    U. Trips are designed for 18 to 'thirty somethings'. Given that we have nights out and visit bars and party on beaches, we have set the minimum age as 18.

  • Why is Phuket not on your itinerary

Phuket is a lovely place, both the island and the township. Thailand has many amazing places to experience and explore, and we believe, that on our 16-Days Thailand Group Tour, we can visit more authentic Thai locations than the highly visited tourist destinations. While Phuket us stunningly beautiful, like most of Thailand, there are other places we believe offer more exposure to traditional Thailand. U. prides itself in delivering exceptionally well curated trips from first hand experience travelling there. We also believe in interacting as much as we can with the local communities and we unapologetically shy away from the 'normal commercial' tourist spots when possible. And in Thailand, it's totally possible. The U. 16 Day trip will have you interacting with Thailand at a much more intimate and cultural level, while still delivering those exceptional 'experiences' that make Thailand a destination of choice!

Bruno, Manchester, England

Thank you U.

28-Sep-2023

A group tour in Thailand is something every young English person should consider doing. Thailand is a beautiful country with a rich culture and history that offers a unique experience for travellers. Travelling on a U. tour was definitely more cost-effective than traveling solo. As well as the temples and traditional Thai customers we did adventure activities, such as trekking, white-water rafting, and zip-lining. You will be traveling with a group of young people who share your interests and sense of adventure, making it a great way to make lasting friendships. It can be a life-changing experience that broadens your horizons and creates memories that will last a lifetime.

Overall, I would highly recommend thiswillbeu to anyone looking for a cultural adventure in Thailand. The trip was well-organized, fun, and educational. The itinerary was packed with exciting activities, from exploring ancient temples to learning how to cook traditional Thai dishes. I particularly enjoyed the elephant sanctuary, amazing to contribute to the rehabilitation of these gentle giants.
