CYour guide will pick you up from the hotel in the morning and take you to a stunning limestone climbing site on the south-facing side of the Champsaur Valley, on the edge of the Écrins National Park.
This site features two sections with a total of 102 routes, ranging from 3a to 8a, offering something for every climber. Heights vary from 8m to 84m, with an average single pitch of around 12m.
It’s the perfect first day to find your climbing level and adjust to the French alpine rock. Your guide will set up various routes for you to try, adapting them as the day progresses based on each climber’s ability.

Day 3 : Climbing At Orpierre - Multi Pitch Skills
Location: Orpierre
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Mon Hotel Gap
Meals Included: Breakfast
Orpierre is a picturesque village, world-renowned for its cliffs and sport climbing. Completely encircled by rock faces, the village beats to the rhythm of climbers, visible from the village square as they tackle the overhangs of the Château cliff, the slabs of Belleric, or reach the summit of Quiquillon. It truly is the "village that climbs."
With over 600 well-equipped routes ranging from 3c to 8c, there’s something for everyone—from gentle slabs to dramatic overhangs. It’s an ideal spot for your first multi-pitch climb, offering routes of various difficulties and lengths.
Today's focus will be on multi-pitch climbing techniques, including rope management and setting up belays on shorter multi-pitch routes.
Lunch can either be a picnic or at a restaurant in the village. After a day of climbing, relax with a drink in one of Orpierre’s bars before your guide takes you back to Gap for your journey home.
Day 4 Climbing In The Ubaye
Location: Ubaye-Serre-Ponçon
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: Mon Hotel Gap
Meals Included: Breakfast
Rock climbing in the Ubaye Valley offers a truly unique experience in a wild, untouched environment. With dramatic limestone cliffs and an alpine backdrop, some sites even boast breathtaking views over the stunning Serre Ponçon lake. It’s a climber’s paradise, catering to all levels. The routes here range from technical slab climbs to vertical walls and adventurous multi-pitch routes, providing ample opportunity for progression and exploration.
There are several sites to explore, including Méolans, the premier spot in the Ubaye, with 151 routes from 3 to 8c, the majority between 5a and 6c. This historic site is challenging—even the 'easy' routes demand precision. Careful foot placement and determination are essential! Many of the routes are spectacular, and some consider the cliffs among the most beautiful in southern France. The Seuil area, with 81 routes from 4c to 8c, is another popular base, while Herbez, primarily for experienced climbers, also offers some easier routes.
Today's focus will be on refining climbing technique and practising the rope work and belay skills you’ve developed.
Lunch will be a picnic on site.
If time allows, you may even stop for a dip in the lake on the way back to Gap!
Day 5 : Big Multi-Pitch Day In Orpierre
Location: Orpierre
Meals Included: Breakfast
Today, you will check out of your hotel and can either leave your bags there to collect later or bring them with you in the minibus to save time when you return to Gap (the guide can drop you off directly at the station).
Your final day promises to be an exhilarating highlight—a big multi-pitch route on Orpierre’s famous cliffs. After days of honing your skills, today is your chance to put everything into practice on a long, sustained climb that will test your endurance, technique, and rope work.
You will be in groups of four with one guide, allowing for two climbing pairs per route. The guide will assist you in selecting the ideal route tailored to your ability and the conditions on the day, ensuring you manage your rope work safely and efficiently. Today’s focus will be on mastering effective rope management, communication between climbers, and belay transitions on multi-pitch routes, all essential for a safe and smooth ascent.
As you reach the summit, the sense of accomplishment and the breathtaking panoramic views will be unforgettable. Lunch will be a picnic at the top to fully enjoy the scenery.
This is the perfect way to conclude an epic climbing adventure in the Alps, leaving you with new skills, confidence, and incredible memories.
