Tour Overview

The Cordillera Vilcanota is an impressive range of mountains which includes the highest glacier Ausangate (6,385m) and three others over 6000m. It’s an excellent trekking area offering travellers more than you could ask for, spectacular mountains and glacier scenery, snow-capped peaks, hot springs, turquoise lakes, glaciers, flora (most of the plants are medicinal used by locals) and fauna like Condors, llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and chinchillas. Picturesque villages and traditionally dressed Indians. It is high, windy and cold so be prepared. Without a doubt the Ausangate trail offers some of the most wonderful scenery in the whole of the Cusco area, with many birds and wildlife and also glaciers and high alpine lakes. Its also one of the most challenging in the region with three high passes over 5,000masl./16,400feet. On a clear day, Apu Ausangate dominates Cusco's southern skyline. As we draw closer to this massive massif (6,380masl. / 20,930feet) one becomes increasingly impressed and understands fully why the ancient Incas held this spectacular mountain in such high regard. During the whole Ausangate trek circuit we pass local villages where the people dress in their typical attire - the women in beautiful flat board hats with trimmings - and llamas graze freely.

Ausangate Hike

13-Aug-2021

My adventure on the Peruvian mountains (Ausangate Trek) with Vidal Expeditions will be one of the most memorable trips I have taken. From the moment we got off the plane in Cusco, we were whisked us off to our hotel. Our hikes where well planned organised and on time. The guides were professional right down to their gear. The camp food was fantastic as was the scenery. Vidal and the exceptional job and I would like to recommend them. Our guide Serguio was one fo the best adventure guide we had in our trip to South America. His knowledge about the mountains, culture. Local traditions. Football, politique and history made us to feel as our big daddy teaching us why we are in this amazing world and what is our goals. This guide is very wise man with his 35 years all answered all our questions and motivated us to reach of the every pass we had along this Ausangate Trek. I am proud to have chosen Vidal Expeditions for this fantastic journey in Peru, definitely I will return to Peru and look for Sergio of Vidal Expeditions.

Fantastic Hike

21-Oct-2021

We had 5 incredible days with Chino hiking around the Ausangate mountain, it is difficult trek but has one of the most outstanding views I've ever seen in my life, colorful lakes, glaciers, mountains and local traditions, so perfect for everyone who wants to connect with the nature. Camping gears and the meals were great even with the cold we felt good with the hot coffee and chocolate which they did for us.

Incredible Landscapes
